Thursday November 1, 1900

Clear, warm and pleasant -- This evening grand Republican rally at Opera House -- crowded audience -- Addressed by George B Chandler of Illinois -- good straight American talk -- Best talk and orator I have ever heard in this state -- better than Dolliver -- Bonfires in street -- band music outside and in -- Bed 1 -- The Carson registry of voters amount to 751 -- At the conclusion three young men entertained audience with music on violin, guitar, & mandolin --

Friday Nov 2

Same -- lots of electioneering and buzzing going on, candidates around lively -- PM writing at my room -- Evening about town -- Bed 12 --

Saturday Nov 3

Same -- wrote an editorial on Bryans Jawbone for the News, and one on Newlands for the Weekly -- That for News didn't appear today, but that for the Weekly appears Monday morning -- The Reno High School Base Ball Club came up this AM and played our Indian School BB Club at race track this PM -- Indians beat them 23 to 5 -- Bed 11:30 --

Sunday Nov 4

Same - letter from wife with $30 - Newlands and his Comstock quartette came on morning train and took stage for up the valley - Genoa, Sheridan etc - his windup of the campaign - wrote & sent communication on the subject to the Reno Gazette, by evening train - About town some with candidates for local offices and politicians generally were around lively -

Monday Nov 5

Clear and pleasant - About town most of theday among the electioneering element - official aspirants etc - Bed 2 - The Weekly had my editorial King Col Newlands in this morning. The Capitol saloon, opposite the State Capitol on Main st was opened tonight in great style - band of music and bonfire in street - great free lunch etc -JP and San Jones passed to Gold Hill this morning -

Tuesday Nov 6

Same - Election day - I got in my good Republican vote - about 3 PM - Election passed off quietly - Carson style - saloons rigidly closed - etc - Read telegraphic returns at Arlington & other places till 2 oclock when I went to bed - Showed Mckinley elected without doubt by big majorities throughout the East as well as Pacific Rain O' Donovan Rossa, Joe Casper's Death 1900 The Big Coal Strike Ended "Joe" Casper Dead

Wednesday Nov 7

Cloudy - showers of rain during the AM - streets very muddy & moistened. Sent page letter to wife - Evening I met & was introduces to Mr O' Donovan Rossa, Irish gentleman - Been stopping at Virginia the last two months - Formerly at Bodie & elsewhere - selling town lots for town of Santa Fe - near Piedmont opposite San Francisco -

Clear and pleasant - The Election returns coming from all parts of the nation make people, especially Republicans, feel good - Looks like clean sweep - Mckinley re relected by bigger majority than ever - " Joe" Joel Casper, a well known old resident saloon keeper at south end of town fall dead behind his bar at 7.30 this evening - He was talking to a couple of friends when suddenly without warning he (( clipping here )) - Stoke (Stroke) of apoplexy immediate cause of death although he has suffered greatly from dropsy. The Great Pennsylvania Coal miners strike has ended by concession and compromise on part of the proprietors - 160 Senator Jones Leaves Again Fried Oysters Pognip Wife Wm Nelson Frosty Nights Stewart and Van Duzer a Meteoric Cheer (strikethrough) Shower Coming

Cloudy - at evening train I found Senator Jones on his way to San Francisco - had short confab with him on the greivance between us - said he was " coming

Clear & plesant- Nick (strikethrough) Thick fog or " pogonip" in morning till about 10 when cleared off fine - wrote short editorial for the weekly, and sent 2 page letter to wife - Bed 2 - According to completest returns, Mckinley has hearly or quite 300 electoral votes out of 447 in the Electoral college - Necessary to a choice 224 -

Fine clear day - Heavy white frost till morning - Joe Casper's funeral this PM was well attended - By evening mail I sent 2 page letter to Wm Nelson, Salt Lake Tribune on correspondence and business matters - Bed at 12 - clear and freezing - Senator Stewart has gone back to Washington, and Van Duer has retired to Winnemucca from his campaigning - He has been elected to the Assembly from Humboldt county Frosty Ormsby Official Canvass Meteoric Shower 1900 Wife Sam Done Past Ormsby Offcial Canvas Great Paris Exposition Closed

Clear, cold & pleasant - Put on a thicker undershirt on account of these cold frosty mornings - The great Paris exhibition closed tonight - Bed 12

Same - Reno Journal of this morning says many citizens saw quite a brilliant meteoric shower between 1 & 2 o clock - 3 page letter from wife, says Sam has gone to New Haven with Dr and Mrs Stubbs as delegates to a convention which is ato open sessions at Yale college - all their expenses to be paid by the Station etc. Expected to be gone about three weeks - After convention perhaps go to Washington or to Boston in which latter case Sam would visit Plymouth if he could but being under orders he can't do or go as he pleases. Alfred comes home form Wadsworth nearly every Friday night to stay over Sunday. Latest news from Bessie she was well & happy. Wife's letter dated Monday Nov 12 162 New Coat Vest and Pants sent for to Sears, Roebuck & Co $1.00 Sent in stamps. I weigh 205 pounds New Shirts, etc Fixed any new shirt Rain

Same - took all measurements and filled order to Sears, Roebuck & Co for cost, vest and pants - Cost and vest breast and waist measure given alike 46 inches, the vest being the standard. From center of back around elbow to end of cuff 33 inches - (cuff about 13 inches) length down back from collar seam, 32 inches - Vest single breasted - 46 & 46 breast and waist - Pants - waist 44; inseam, 29; outside seam from top of waistband
