Saturday Nov 15

The same -- AM was at Reveille office short time -- Mddrill there -- offered my services -- not needed -- At noon went up to foundry -- got my stove covers & took them to the cabin -- Wrote & mailed letter to Charles Dondero, 535 Washington st, San F -- Evening down town -- Bed at 11 --

Sunday Nov 16

The same -- About home most of day -- Evening down town -- Bed at 11 -- I got up a circular letter this PM to send to the State Senators elect, dated Austin Nov 15 1884 Dear sir -- I am a candidate for [engrosing???] clerk of the Senate -- Any favor therein at your hands will be duly appreciated by Your Friend Alf Doten

Dondero -- Hektograph -- 19 senator letters -- cold

I hektographed 24 copies and will fill out & mail them tomorrow -- clear cold freezing night --

Monday Nov 17

Clear & pleasant but cold -- Fixed up & mailed my letters to Senators this PM -- 19 of them -- Also wrote a letter to Dondero -- Sent him a telegram this PM saying I would send him another letter tonight -- Evening down town in [Letjens'???] saloon to keep warm -- Bed at 11 -- coldest night yet --

The same -- PM at the cabin awhile -- Evening down town -- Bed at 11 -- freezing cold --

The same -- PM I was up to the mill and picked up my pockets full of rich rock, given me by various employes -- Evening down town -- Bed at 11 - plenty of frost, and ice an inch thick all over town -- Reveille this evening says it was down to zero at Ledlie last night -- and Ledlie is down on Reese River about 7 miles from here - Wrote & nmailed letter to Lieut Gov Laughton this evening --

Thursday Nov 20

Cloudy most of day & chilly -- Loafed about town or home all day - Evening ditto - At 11 commenced letter 71 to Enterprise -- saw it off at 4 -- Maddrill left on bus at that time on trip to California & the western part of this State for a

few weeks -- vacation -- This PM is warming up water for a share, over my coal oil lamp, I Hung a tin pail over it, just about 1/2 inch or less, clear of top of chimney - Had nearly a quart of water -- In about an hour got it so hot as to almost boil - Put 5 eggs into it and cooked them nicely in 12 minutes- - yolks hard and whites not so hard -- delicious -- my ordinary lamp that use all the time, to write by etc -- Bed at 5 -- freezing hard --

Friday Nov 21

The same -- Bed at 5 AM, after letting my Enterprise letter off -- Slept till 9 1/2 - PM up at the mill & vicinity -- Evening down town --Bed at 12 --

Saturday Nov 22 Clear & pleasant - but cool - Was up to cabin awhile - evening down town - Bed at 12 - cold freezing nights -

Sunday Nov 23 The same - PM I wrote letter to J P Jones, San Francisco - didnt get it into the mail on time, so sent it per hotel - Wrote letter to Brother Sam & will mail it tomorrow - Bed at 2 - Bad diarrhea kept me running till morning -

Monday Nov 24 Clear & pleasant - Bad diarrhea all day kept me about home - Wrote letter to Wm Harrower, Hawthorne, (Esmerelda County) - Evening at home - Bed at 11 1/2 - cold weather I.O.O.F. Al Fish Dr Thoma

Tuesday Nov 35 clear & very pleasant - The nights this season have been unusually cold - freeze every night now - Was about town considerably - Met Sheriff Williams of Douglas county, Grand Master of the Odd Fellows in this state, and George (Henning) Grand Patriarch in the State, of that Order - Had long and pleasant chat with both at the Hotel this evening - They are on a visit to tell all the Lodges, & came here from Eureka - Henning will go to Va by morning train, but Williams will stay another day - Bed at 12 - Got letters from L Fish, Reno & Dr Thoma, Eureka, Senators elect willing to support me, but not pledging, also one from A(Mante)

Nye Co, Belmont, saying he would do all he could for me -- My old friend John A Dennis of the Tuscana Times-Review, a Democratic hold over, in the Senate, gave me a splendid notice in his paper of the 20th -- Bed at 3 --

Wednesday Nov 26

The same -- telegraphed to wife: "How are you today?" Reply came: "Not much better-Not in school. Be all right soon." This was because my letter from there yesterday & today have been from Bessie and Mother saying that Mary is very sick from her old throat trouble, etc -- & would not be able to run her school -- Got letter from Wells Drury, Carson, Deputy Secy of State, voluntarily offering to do all he can, for me in my clerkship aspirations -- Evening down town -- Bed at 1 --

Enterprise 72 Thanksgiving Day A S Burbank

Thursday Nov 27

The same -- fine day -- Thanksgiving Day -- AM at home -- PM got ready & at 3 1/2 PM went up to Prof Bristow's house with Summerfield, to Thanksgiving dinner -- Bristow is principal of Austins Public Schools, and Sardis Summerfield is teacher of 1st Grammer Dept, that my wife used to run -- Nice dinner turkey, pudding etc -- then had some guitar playing by Mrs B & singing in the parlor -- Home at 6 1/2 -- Was down town till 10 1/2 -- Home -- Slept -- At 12 started in & wrote Enterprise 72 & saw it off on morning bus -- Recd a Thanksgiving card this morning from AS Burbank, Plymoth, Mass --

Telegram from Wife -- She is better Allen Curtis & family arrive

Friday Nov 28

The same -- Slept till nearly 10 AM from 5 when I went to bed after seeing my letter to the Enterprise off -- My letter from wife says she is getting all right again -- This evening, Lowery, the operator (nephew to Bob) met me & delivered message from wife, received yesterday -- It said: "Am better today - Enjoy your Thanksgiving" -- PM was up to cabin -- Evening down town -- Bed 11 -- Allen A Curtis family arrived this evening on early train -- over an hour ahead of time -- They will spend part of the Winter here --

Saturday Nov 29

The same -- warm and summery -- About town most of day, financiering etc -- Curtis did not come up with his family last night -- Evening down town -- Bed at 12 --

Sunday Nov 30

The same -- About home or down town -- Bed at 11

Clear, warm & pleasant -- were it not for the cold freezing nights this would be almost considered summer weather -- At cabin all day, cooked breakfast and dinner there -- had the two chickens fricasseed -- Evening down town awhile -- wrote letter to Gov J W Adams -- Bed at 2 --
