Tuesday Dec 2

The same -- Gave Joe Miller, the county clerk an order for the $20 due me and allowed by the county commissioners for acting as clerk of election in 1st ward Nov 4th -- Dan Callahan of Grass Valley left me a sack of very fine potatoes at the Post office yesterday as a present -- I paid a Piute two bits to carry them to my room -- PM was at cabin ate there today -- Evening down town -- Bed at 12 --

Wednesday Dec 3

Clear, cool & very blustering from the SW -- Very dusty -- Everybody thought it would blow up a storm sure, but it didn't -- Moderated down fine, clear & pleasant in the evening -- Got a letter from Lt Gov Laughton -- Telegraphed to Jones, San F this morning at 9 -- "Did you receive my letter of November twenty-third? Got no reply at all -- Was at cabin today & ate there -- Evening down town -- Bed at 12 -- Freezing & clear -- Had my hair cut or trimmed today --

Enterprise 73 JP Jones Seymour Pixley Very cold

Thursday Dec 4

Clear & pleasant -- was at cabin got letter from Jones this morning -- Evening down town -- Wrote Enterprise No 73 tonight, & got it off at 4 -- The bus had gone, so I sent it down by a Spaniard who was going & got left & had to foot it -- Bed at 5

Cloudy, blustering & storm threatening -- with a light hail storm in the PM -- Got letter from Seymour Pixley, Carson, asking my support for him for Sargent at arms of the Assembly -- Was at cabin & had nice mess of fried fresh herring -- Evening replied to Pixley -- was down town -- Bed at 2 -- Clear -- Coldest night yet -- Hard Freeze -- Episcopal church Social at Armory Hall tonight -- Big success --

1st snow storm very cold snap Gov Adams Laughton 10 above zero

Saturday Dec 6

Cold, with a smart snow storm which gave about 2 inches -- cleared off very cold after sunset -- I was up to cabin this PM, & ate there -- one meal a day now -- Evening down town -- Bed at 12 1/2 -- Much the coldest night of the season -- water froze in my room long before I went to bed -- When I went to bed my thermometer was 26 in my room, put it outside a few minutes & it went down to 12 above zero -- Got letter from Gov Adams this morning in response to the one I wrote him last Monday -- Sent a short letter to Laughton this Evening --

Cold Got Stove up in Room L P McCarty Snow

Sunday Dec 7

Clear cold & blustering -- About 15 deg all day -- Was up to the cabin & dined -- got a couple of boys, Bert McIntyre and Jimmy Baker, to carry my little office stove down to myroom -- I took the legs & things & the pipe along & the tools, and I set up that stove in good shape -- and I brought wood down from the cabin --

Fixed and straightened things up, wrote letter to wife, & took it to the Post office, but was too late, as the mail had closed early, owing to it being Sunday -- Was about town awhile -- At just 9:30 PM I started fire in my stove -- It worked 1st rate -- Staid with it all night reading, writing etc -- Wrote letter to L P McCarty, San Francisco, also 1 to Jons -- Took the McCarty and wife's letter to

JP Jones Train Breaks Down

Mr Holt at 4 - No down train as the up train locomotive, broke an axle about 2 1/2 miles this side of Ledlie -- likely to be no down train for a day or less -- Shall take back the wife & McCarty letter & send them with Jones Letter by next mail -- At dark Brought 18 deg but moderated during night to 23 deg, and thickened weather prevailed till morning -- Bed at 5 -- Wind blustering up from the North & East snowing lightly and threatening big --

Clear, principally but cold and threatening -- Snow melted but little -- Mail got through this morning, and left for Battle Mountain again about 10 AM, so my letters went along -- I had detained my letter to Jones, and walked down to Clifton to mail it, but the train had left, so I mailed it this evening - Received letter from S D Baker, Va city, about Centennial, and one from John C Todman of Hawthorne asking me to help him to get Minute Clerk of the Assembly -- Also one from Agency of the Nevada Bank of San Francisco date Virginia Nev, Dec 6, 1884, saying :

On April 3d, 18779 Mr Mackey paid in to this bank $2,186.66, the amount being for your note of $2,000 with interest -- We enclose you a new note in his favor for

My note of $2,000 to Mackey Marriage certificate returned $3,673.14 being the amount above mentioned, 2,186.66 with interest to the 3d inst added, which please date, sign and return to us, & we will forward to you the old note." I did nothing regarding it and may not of present -- By express I received the marriage certificate of self & wife from Warner Hillyer -- In the back of one of those pictures I sold him nearly a year ago -- Mary had pt it for safe keeping 00 When she heard I had sold them she wrote me about it, and wrote to Hillyer. He & wife live at Fish Creek, near Hot Springs station, on the Nevada Central, but somehow he neglected to send it to me, before now -- I did

little or nothing today -- Was up to cabin & brought home a bag full of wood -- Evening down tow awhile -- home at 11 -- read, etc by my warm fire, and bet at 4 1/2

Tuesday Dec 9

Clear & pleasant -- snow melted very fast -- Was about town some -- Evening visited Summerfield at him room at the Union Lodging House of Sam Crescingo -- Home at 12 -- read, wrote, etc -- Bed at 2 /12 -- 18 deg above --

Wrote a couple of locals, etc -- Made trade with Bob Hogan and got new pair of shoes in place of those he made for me some time ago, for $13 & which I was never able to wear -- traded even -- Evening down town short time -- Home -- read till 2, & to bed -- 16 deg above zero --

Thursday Dec 11

Cloudy & cold -- Threatening a storm -- About town and helping a little at Reveille office -- Evening down town -- Bed at 12 -- clear & cold --

Friday Dec 12

Good smart snowstorm before daylight this morning -- blustering and drifting -- left about another inch of snow, if evenly distributed -- Borrowed $20 from Gibson and paid Sammy King $20 I borrowed of him some 2 months ago -- Evening down town -- Home at 11 -- good comfortable fire -- Went through the big pile of letters from my wife since she has been in Reno, burned almost the whole pile -- got letter from J M Dormer, Sec'y of State -- highly indorsing mea& enclosing a clip from his paper in Candelaria, the -- True -- also very highly indorsing and recommending me. Bed 2 -- cloudy -- more snow --

Cloudy, cold & threatening -- snow didnt melt off much -- PM I Walked up to the mill, taking items -- Evening down town awhile -- Wrote Enterprise 74 -- got it off
