ANOTHER PIONEER GONE.

Death of Hon. John S. Pidge.

John S. Pidge, an old resident of this city and of the Pacific Coast, died at Walley's Hot Springs, Douglas county. last Saturday, of quick consumption. Deceased was one of the early settlers on this coast, having crossed the plains in 1851, and settled in Grass Valley, Nevada county, California, where he lived for three years. In 1854 he went to Brandy City, Sierra county, where he lived until 1863, when he came to the Comstock, making this city his home until his death. John S. Pidge was a native of Providence, Rhode Island, and was fifty-two years of age. Mr. Pidge served a term in the State Legislature and occupied the position of Alderman of this city. He was a gentleman of quiet habits and sterling qualities, and had a large circle of friends here who will feel genuine sorrow at his death, as also will his many friends scattered everywhere on the Pacific Coast. He had the good, true and warm heart that is so characteristic of the majority of the early miners of the Pacific Coast. He leaves in this place a sorrowing wife and one child; also a cousin, Samuel J. Pidge, who crossed the plains with him and who has always been with him and so near him in all things that most persons supposed the pair to be brothers. Mrs. Pidge is a sister of Mrs. Williamson (neé Miss Maggie Moore), the celebrated actress, now in Australia. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from Mr. Pidge's late residence, corner of G and Taylor streets, under the auspices of the Exempt Firemen's Association of which Mr. Pidge was a member. The funeral was largely attended.
