Saturday July 31
Same -- wife arrived at 10 in company with Col Parker -- other educational folks from the Teach Institute been held in Reno during week -- About 20 of them -- They visited mines & left again tonight -- Phil Kearney Post GAR of the city left also -- Big Crowd saw them off -- Wife & I dined at room -- big crab, etc -- Work as usual -- Bed 2 -- Wife helped me on paper this evening by writing letter from Reno about Institute --

Clear & hot -- 84 deg in Va -- Bed till 9 -- Breakfast at home, can oysters, eggs, fresh buns, fruit, tea, etc -- PM down town awhile -- We dined at French Rotisserie, & took train at 5:25 for Reno -- At Carson the Col Parker crowd were to have got aboard but they were just too late & so got left -- They saw the tail end of the train in the distance -- and only a short distance -- Lots of passengers aboard for S.F taking advantage of cheap rate to go to the Grand Army Reunion in San Francisco, which begins on Tuesday next -- Since yesterday morning, nine trains of 15 coaches each thoroughly well filled have passed through Reno, each train carrying about 450 people.
