passing -- Many trains also have gone the southern route via Los Angeles -- We found all right at home -- Millie recovered suffiently to be out at Andrews' ranch 2 or 3 miles from town on a visit -- Trains from the East very late tonight -- At 11:30 the train with General Logan on board arrived & put up for the night -- Big time -- firing of anvils, brass band, speech from Logan, etc - Big crowd to see him -- 15 cars -- 500 people on board -- As I went to bed at 10 I didn't see nor hear any of it -- Very hot here today - about 100⁰ -- Three 15 car trains full of the Grand Army passed through tonight -- Made big thundering noise, reminding some of the war --

Same -- The Logan train left for Cal about 7 AM -- The train from Cal late, so I did not get away for Va until 9:12 AM -- Arr at Va at 11:50 -- Work as usual -- Bed at 3 --

Tuesday Aug 3

Same -- 84⁰ -- Bed at 4 --

Wednesday Aug 4

Same -- A G Koch, a German [???] & plumber whom I have known ever since I have been here, shot, & killed himself this morning at his place of business on C street short distance north of Enterprise office -- Financial embarrassments the cause -- leaves wife & 3 children -- 49 yrs old -- Work as usual -- Bed at 4 --
