Same -- loafed -- PM a meeting of Centennial -- I President -- We levied assessment of 2 cents per share -- Evening about town -- Bed 12 -- This is probably the last assessment on Centennial -- Got letter from W S Hobart, San Francicso

San Francisco March 14, 1887 My Dear Doten -- I received your letter and showed it to the Chollar people, but do not think they would let contract -- Shall be up to Virginia very soon and will see you. Yours very truly W S Hobart

Same -- About town most of day -- Evening wrote letters to Wm Gibson and Mike Finigan, Austin, E M Downer of the Mountain Messenger, Downieiville Cal and Andrew Lawson, American Flat -- Bed at 5

Thursday March 17

Cloudy, cooler, blustering & dusty -- St Patrick's Day -- No observance other than green ribbons and neckties -- About town -- Sol Frankel the busted broker on trial in Dist Court yesterday & today for embezzlement, etc -- Evening I was busy writing up Pioneer Legislative doings, banquet etc for a pamphlet -- Bed at 2 --

Friday March 18

Clear & Springlike -- PM I attended 3d days trial of the Frankel case -- court crowded -- Testimony all in -- counsel argued long charge by Judge [Rising] -- Case given to the Jury at 5:45 PM -- Bed at 12 --

Saturday March 19

Same -- The Jury in the Frankel case came into court, at 10 AM and reported total disagreement, standing 8 for acquittal to 4 for conviction, and were accordingly discharged -- Frankel stays in jail -- I busy "cutting and contriving" -- Evening ditto -- Bed at 2 --

Chicken Stew Roll of the Pioneers

Sunday March 20

Same -- Had fine big chicken stew for dinner -- Paid 7 bits for one yesterday, so I cooked it today -- Evening at home -- writing up the Pioneer banquet, etc -- Bed 2 --

Monday March 21

Clear & springlike -- Busy most of day and evening in fixing up the roll of the Pacific Coast Pioneers Society -- About 500 members -- Had Dr Delavan helping me with the records -- We went to dinner together at Otto Eckelmann's Capitol Rotisserie -- This roll goes into my pamphlet of the Legislative Pioneers doings -- Bed at 2 --

Wednesday March 23

Cloudy -- cooler -- blustery and dusty -- PM I met W S Hobart at Wheeler, Hall & Cos hardware store & had quite a sociable chat with him -- cannot get my desired lease of a portion of chollar upper workings -- Evening at home working on my Pioneer pamphlet -- at 10 laid on bed & slept 2 hours -- then worked all night on pamphlet -- Sent a 3 page letter to Yerington, Carson this evening --

Friday March 25

Clear & very pleasant -- About town as usual -- Got letter from Col U E Allen, Waterbury, Conn returning me the $3 I paid for 1 yr subscription to the Weekly Enterprise for him -- as he had already subscribed for it -- I finished my Pioneer pamphlet tonight -- Bed at 4

Saturday March 26

Same -- PM Evening at Opera House -- Play of "Cheek", by Roland Reed Comedy Co -- Fair house only -- Home at 12 -- Slept a little, then wrote Introductory and Valedictory to my Pioneer pamphlet -- took all night -- This PM I rode to Gold Hill on bus (25 cts)

Got into basement of Musonic building -- found 2 more boxes of my stuff that I left there when I left for Austin -- Left order with Smith, Gillespie's partner to take them to the depot & ship to Reno -- Home on bus --

Sunday March 27

Same -- Bed at 7 AM -- Rose at 11 -- About town -- At the Crystal saloon this evening was introduced to George H Bump just in from Bodie on short visit -- going to S F, & Los Angeles -- He is an engineer or "runner" at the Standard mine works Bodie for

Minnie Warren's Brother Pamphlet completed Dusty

several years -- About 45 yrs old & about my size & weight & shape -- Brother to Minnie Warren and Lavinia Warren (Mrs Tom Thumb) Their real names were Huldah and Lavinia Bump -- 8 children of them -- Born in Middleboro Mass. He knew me, well by reputation, etc -- Tonight I fully revised & completed my pamphlet -- 43 pages -- Bed at 3 --

Clear, blustery, fearfull dusty and disagreeable -- About town -- Bed at 1 --

At Carson and Reno

Clear warm & pleasant -- Went to Carson on morning train -- My pass having run out, I had to put up for my passage -- Bob Patterson went along -- I had my pamphlet

manuscript along and we went to Att'y General Alexander's office in the State Capitol, where we met with W C Dovey, State Supt of Public Instruction and I read my pamphlet copy to them -- They highly approved it -- Also was at State Printing House with it getting the ideas of the State Printer as to the style of its publication etc -- We saw the Pioneer cabinet being put in order, so far as specimens

were concerned etc, by Dr Delavan the Mineralogist of our Society -- The big cabinet case and 2 smaller cabinet cases were placed in position last week, grained, etc, and Doc Delavan commenced putting in the specimens yesterday -- Evening train to Reno -- Found all right at home -- Bed at 10 --

Wednesday March 30

The same -- Morning train from Cal arrived at 9 -- just two hours late -- left at 9:30 -- Va at 12N -- PM & evening about town, etc -- Bed at 2 -- On the train coming up from Reno today I was introduced to JF Scott of Boston Herald, on visit here --
