Snow Carleton Opera Co "Erminie" Dan drunk
Thursday April 14, 1887
Variable -- Early morning snow storm laid about an inch of snow to whiten the face of the country -- A few light drizzles of rain during the day -- I was about town, and in the evening attended the Pipers Opera House -- 3 act opera of "Erminie" -- by the Carleton Opera Company -- 42 of them -- They played ("Nanon") last night -- "Drum Major's Daughter" tomorrow night, and "Mikado" Saturday PM, closes their engagement -"Erminie" tongiht very good indeed -- good house -- Bed at 1 -- Weather still threatening -- Dan DeQuille got drunk again today for the first time since he has been back in his old position as a local of the Enterprise --

Saturday April 16
Cloudy with several very light showers of rain & some little snow and hail in the morning -- Frankel's cas was called in Dist Court at 10 AM today, on indictment No 4, embezzlement in having taken in $360 from Mrs Burke the afternoon before his failure was announced -- The Dist Atty refused to prosecute -- The Evening Report says:

The Mikado
As soon as the case was dismissed -- about 10:30 AM, Sol Frankel was taken from the County jail where he has been since Dec 2 and taken in a closed carriage out over the Geiger Gradeby Chief of Police Henderson and officer Austin -- Another carriage in waiting took him to Reno or elsewhere in that direction, and he probably will be in San Francisco tomorow. Any how he is free and out of trouble so far as his brokerage business here is cooncerned -- PM I attended the theater -- The play was "The Mikado", and the best rendition of it I have yet seen -- by far-- The Carleton Opera Company left on the evening train, to play this evening in Reno -- [illegible]

big crowd saw them off -- Evening I wrote a notice of Mrs Stenhouse's new book, "An Englishwoman in Utah" for George Stenhouse to go in the Enterprise of tomorrow morning -- Was with him down town awhile -- Bed at 2 -- John Mackay came up from San F this morning --
Sunday April 17
Very light snowsqualls and occasional sunshine -- Was about town, watching points as usual -- At 11 oclock Dan (Fahey), an old Gold Hiller met me in International saloon -- He was exceedingly drunk -- I could not get rid of him and had to take

Variable, but pleasant -- I was about, as usual -- Evening mostly at home -- Bed at 2 -Snowing and raining some -- John Yule my old time friend of Gold Hill and subsequently of the (Hussey) mine, Cornecopia, Elko County, called upon me about noon -He is now superintendent of the Atlantic mine, Silver City --
Snow 2 inches The Pioneer picture
Wednesday April 20
Early morning a big snowstorm which deposited fully two inches -- Melted off mostly during the day -- but the air was wintry and the sky considerably clouded -- Speculating -- Evening I wrote a notice of the great Pioneers Group picture for Rob -Patterson, to go in the Va Chronicle tomorrow -- Was about town some -- Bed at 2 -Clear & freezing hard --
500 shares Centennial sold $100 to wife
Thursday April 21
Clear cool & pleasant -- Tom Johns paid me $300 this PM for 500 shares Centennial, which he and Harry have been negociating for the last week or two -- I got a check on Wells Fargo & Co at Joe Douglass' for $100 and enclosed it in letter to my wife & sent it by mail to her this evening -- Sent telegram: "Look out for my letter

Same -- Comstock Division No 3 Knights of Pythias was instituted this PM -- Uniform
Rank -- The Reno Uniform Rank Division to the the number of about 20 came up on a
K of P Uniform Rank Centennial paid wife Patterson
special train, arriving at 3 PM -- Fine uniform -- Marched to Pythian Hall -- At 5 PM the newly organized Rank & Reno paraded publicly with band of music up B & down C streets -- About 70 in all -- looked fine -- Had a big ball in the evening at Opera House -- I was there, with Hugh J Mehan, who came up with the Renoites -- Bed 3 --

Variable, but pleasant -- As usual -- Got letter from wife also one from Bob Patterson, who went to S.F. day before yesterday -- Paid my Centennial assessment today -$40.30

Clear & pleasant -- About town as usual -- Bed at 1 -- Hugh J Mohan came up from Reno today, canvassing for the newspapers there, (Parker's) map of Nevada, etc -- Is going out to Hawthorne, etc --

Tuesday April 26
The same -- About town as usual -- Not well -- got bad cold -- Evening I took look in at the Odd Fellows ball, at NG Hall -- crowded -- grand time -- Hugh J Mohan was with me -- Bed at 1 -- Mohan gave me some of the powder or snuff he is taking for catarrh --
Care for Catarrh and Hay fever
It is pulverized (borax & pulv. sugar) equal parts -- Only snuff or catarrh preparation that I ever took that did not make me sneeze -- He originated it -- It is very good -- Also gave me a recipe to take next September to stave off the hay fever -4 oz syrup of (shabarb), 20 grains quinine, pulverized -- mix-- Commence Sept 1 taking 1 oz every 3 hours, until it operates -- Then cease its use till next day, and repeat -- "Cure inevitable" -- Got it from his mother --
Very Late Mail Centennial
Wednesday April 27
Same -- mail delayed 7 hours today, not arriving till 5 PM -- landslide on the CP between Emigrant Gap & Blue Canyon on the Sierra -- Mail went back on time at 5:25 as usual -- I was about town with Mohan more or less -- PM the Centennial Trustees held a meeting & overhauled the accounts of the company -- Myself, Gorham, & Kinzle were present as committee -- Bed at 1 --
