town feeling a little better, yet very sore nd lame -- Back at room soon, wrote &

Wife I weigh 200 lbs Keno

mailed a letter to wife -- Ate nothing today whatever -- Bowels loose occasionally -- Evening I went down to the Capitol Restaurant and got a luttle roast beef, dry toast and tea -- could eat very little -- was in Gus Gross' cigar shop seeing a new weighing machine -- Drew crowds of people -- for a nickel 5 ct piece I was weighed -- 200 lbs exactly -- went into Patterson's keno room & at his suggestion we played a couple of cards -- I won the 1st one $4.25 -- We divided and quit -- I went home -- I feel a little better tonight, but not much -- Bed at 9:30 --

Sat up all Night in old Editorial Chair and Slept Splendidly

Thursday May 26

Same -- A small shower about 4 PM -- AM was feeling so well that [illegible] shaved up, cleaned up and was down town in the PM -- Had not eaten a morsel of grup for acouple of days when at 4 PM today I took a good hearty dinner at the French Rotisserie -- Felt so full and comfortable that when I returned to my room at 8 oclock I sat in my chair, read myself to sleep & staid with it firm and good all night, never waking up once -- Hope I havent got another cold -- This last was a very bad one -- I most certainly never has a much worse one -- Propose going down to Carson tomorrow -- I was at the

Friday May 27

Cloudy but very pleasant -- was in Carson attending to my book, the printing of which is commenced -- Home in the evening -- Felt well again -- Met WDC Gibson in today -- In from his Pyramid Reservation -- on short visit & goes back tomorrow -- Bed at 11 on outside with clothes on -- Haven't been so long before without stripping -- Rose at 7 -- wrote, & read, etc till after daylight -- Laid down again at 5 & slept --

Clear & hot -- 84 deg in Carson -- Hottest thus far -- Rose at 7 -- Hurried to train [phrase erased] Was busy in Carson most of day getting some of the speeches that were made at Pioneer banquet -- The State Printing got all my pamphlet up today & gave me proofs to read -- Arrived Va on evening train as usual -- Evening about town some -- Bed at 12 --

Monday May 30

Clear, & 86 deg -- Memorial Day -- Flags at full mast all over the city -- Lots of people in from around -- Procession formed on B st & went out & decorated the soldiers graves, etc, in cemetery with flowers -- Procession started at 11 AM -- Gen RP Keating & staff -- Emmett and National Guards and Uniform Rank K of P -- Grand Army, etc -- out B to junction and through C st north -- Cara's band did the music -- After

Pamphlet proofs returned Cloudburst 101° in Carson

they return, had exercises at Opera House -- Oration by J A Stephens, music, etc -- I was busy most of the day fixing up my pamphlet proofs, & got them off by the evening mail for Carson -- Bed at 11 -- tired -- my thermometer in room 77 deg --

Tuesday May 31

AM clear & sultry -- 86 deg -- PM clouded up & became cooler -- with several smart showers in Carson -- a cloudburst near below the Morgan mill washed away the RR track and covered the track for quite a distance with [sentence erased] -- Our train came through all right at 7 PM -- 101 deg in Carson yesterday and 86 today -- Busy with the State Printer -- today -- Got all the speeches & pamphlet pretty well straightened out -- & will finish tomorrow -- Home on evening train -- Bed at 10 -- No rain to speak of on Comstock today -- not enough to lay the dust -- Memorial Day in Carson will be remembered for many a year from its intence, unprecidented hear 101 degrees
