the fixens -- Mighty good dinner -- Evening down town short time -- Met Billy Henry and took him home -- Home myself at 7 -- Bed 8:30 -- clear cold day --

Same -- Rose at 9 -- AM about home -- PM down town on life insurance -- Evening, wife, Bessie and I visited Ed and Millie at their rooms, across the street, at (Pyne's) -- Bed 10 --

1888 At Reno Showery Lost Cane

Saturday, December 1, 1888

Cloudy and variable with a few light showers -- AM I boxed up the water pipe in the cellar, against possible heavy frost this Winter -- PM down town -- At 5 PM took dinner at Ed and Millie's -- Chrissie Andrews and Schuyler Coates there, also wife and Bessie -- 7 in all -- Evening down town -- Bed 10 -- clear -- This PM got shaved at Morris' barber shop -- Old Jim (Killeen), whom I followed in the chair walked off with my cane -- I took his, and after dinner at Millie's took it back to barber shop and lift it -- mine not returned, so I walked home without any -- It is the cane Gallup of Gold Hill gave me when I broke left knee cap several years ago -- Have another at home to use --

Clear and pleasant -- AM at home patching up attic windows, etc -- PM and evening down town -- Bed 9 --

Hallen and Hart troupe Back to Virginia Evening Report suspends Chollar Mill run by Electricity

Monday Dec 3 Clear & fine -- Took morning train at 7:35 for Va -- Hallen & Hart troupe on board, & an extra lot of passengers made cars pretty full -- Through ontime, arriving 10:20 -- About town -- Evening at theater -- Hallen & Hart's Musical, farce, comedy Co in "Later On" -- queer, variety no plot thing Very amusing -- good house [ next few lines erased] Mrs. Martha Porteous formerly of this city leading lady in troupe -- 6 other ladies -- The Virginia Evening Report suspended publication this eve indefintitely -- Published by D L Brown last 2 or 3 yrs, daily -- During the past week, dynamo electric energy has been applied to running the New Nevada mill at the Chollar -- partial success so far 6 dynamos at Sutro Tunnel level --

at French Rotisserie -- Bed at 1 -- I am now President of the Society of Pacific Coast Pioneers and also of the Exempt Firemens Association -- Chief of all the old stiffs --

Con Sullivan Application -- Snow Odd Fellow's New Work & Paraphenalia

Cloudy -- PM & evening light snow squalls -- Wrote application of Cornelius Sullivan, Policeman, for $2,000, & sent it to Dr Zangerle for examination -- Evening attended Degree Lodge -- Biggest crowd yet -- Work in 1st Degree -- and election of officers -- 1st of new paraphernalia, costumes etc under the new work -- Very grand & sublime -- Wrote it up in small item Enterprise -- Bed at 2 -- Clear & cold --

Cloudy cold & blustering -- PM & evening light snow squalls -- at home most of day, writing, etc -- Bed 2 -- 2 inches of snow & lightly falling --

Saturday Dec 15

Cloudy & cold with light snow squalls -- About an inch on ground this morning -- Bed at 1 -- clear --

30 letters -- Big street flood -- Dr. Kirby's Funeral

Clear & cold -- Bed 1 --

Monday Dec 17

Same -- Sent 30 letters through the Post office -- 20 to all the members of the State Senate & 10 to the Storey County members of the Assembly -- on my candidacy for the Engrossing clerkship of the Senate -- Evening about town -- About 12 the big 8 inch

fire Dept main on B st just above the Water Co's office busted, and flooded Tayler st & side issues for about an hour till officially shut off -- Bed 2 -- Clear & cold

Clear & pleasant -- As usual -- 3 PM -- Dr. Kirby's funeral -- About 300, Societys etc on foot, 33 carriages, etc -- Dan De Quille, William Wright & myself joined the procession, behind the Odd Fellows, & ahead of the Chosen Friends & walked from Taylor

The Days in "Vacation" and "Upside Down" -- Deacon Parkinson 67 years old -- Centennial

st to Mill st & dropped out -- Evening at Opera House -- The Dalys in "Vacation" or Harvard vs Yale -- Very amusing -- 1/2 house -- Bed 2 --

Wednesday Dec 19

Same -- Evening at theater -- The Dalys in "Upside Down" -- The funniest thing of all -- moderate house -- Bed 2 -- The Dalys troupe left for Reno after the show -- R R Parkinson of the Carson Tribune was with me at the theater last evening & went home today -- He was 67 years old yesterday --

Cloudy -- PM at Gold Hill -- Postponed sale of Centennial a month -- Walked up Bed at 2 --
