Clear & Pleasant -- PM about town -- Evening Opera House -- Cleveland's Minstrels -- Big House -- Best preformance of the kind I ever saw --

Clear nice Spring day -- PM about town -- Evening ditto -- Bed 12

Thursday April 2

Same -- As usual -- Bed 12

Friday April 3

Same -- Got my regular shoes on today -- been wearing "arctics," with slippers inside -- Leg pretty lame as yet -- PM & evening about town -- Looked in at ball of Wenonah Council I.O.R.M. at National Guard Hall -- Fine party -- special train from Carson brought about 60 to it -- & went back at 1:30 -- Bed 2 --

Saturday April 4

Cloudy but pleasant -- Campbell of the Enterprise paid me $20 more today, so I squared up my standing in IOOF $3 to April 1 -- paid room rent $8, sent $3 postal order to Wakelee & Co -- $1 PO box -- $1.50 granite iron pot -- etc $2 -- & have $1.50

Sunday April 5

Clear and colder -- very blustering, dry & dusty -- About as usual -- Bed at 12 --

Monday April 6

Same -- PM clouded up, and at dark, heavy snow -- storm set in, about 2 inches falling -- PM about town -- Evening staid at room -- too much chance for slipping -- Visited Dennis, who is unable for duty -- Bed 1 --

Tuesday April 7

About 3 inches of snow covered the ground this morning, but melted off very rapidly -- Some sunshine & light snow squalls during the day and evening -- Was about a little -- Bed 1 -- Freezing hard and snowing lightly -- Dave Morgan of Gold Hill died this morning --

John Mackay & son arrive T Cara $10 more from Campbell Dave Morgan's Funeral Masquerade Ball, big

Wednesday April 8

Variable -- Busy at room most of day -- Evening about town -- Bed 1 --

Thursday April 9

C & P -- Campbell of the Enterprise paid me $10 more this PM -- John W Mackay arrived by noon train from San F & the East -- Had his eldest son along -- Evening I called on Prof Thos Cara, at the International -- He is just recovering from "la grippe" -- Dave Morgan's funeral this PM was attended by 100 miners on foot, and 60 carriages -- came from Gold Hill & buried in the cemetery north of this city --

Friday April 10

Variable -- dusty, blustering and disagreeable -- PM about town -- Evening was up to Opera House awhile, at big masked ball of National Guard -- BIggest I ever saw

Saturday April 11

Same -- Light snow in the air most of day -- Not enough to lay the dust, however, PM & evening about town -- Evening met Joe Josephs, Clerk of Supreme Court up from Carson -- President of the Exempts -- come up to attend regular monthly meeting tomorrow PM -- Was at Enterprise & read proof etc -- Joe & I went to bed at my room at 3 --

Sunday April 12

AM clear & pleasant -- PM cloudy, chilly & blustering -- attended regular monthly meeting of Exempts -- & was allowed 4 weeks more sick benefits -- $24 -- Then I went to John Connerton's by invitation to dinner -- Dr Delavan also there, with Connerton and wife -- Clam chowder, fish balls, oyster stew & custard -- oranges -- etc -- Wrote & sent letter to wife -- Evening at room -- reading etc -- Bed at 1 -- Joe Josephs returned to Carson by evening train --

Monday April 13

Cloudy & cold with light sprinkles of snow during PM -- Got my $24 from Treasurer of the Exempts today, paying #2 for monthly dues, which pays me up to May 1 -- The " Si Plunkard" (JC Lewis) Yankee Comedy Company arrived by noon train -- Their fife band paraded at 3 PM up & down C st -- Very excellent music -- Band rigged up as

Variable & cold -- Morning light snowstorms -- About town in the PM -- Bed 11:30 --

Cloudy & cold -- Evening a light rain storm laid the dust a little -- Was about town more or less -- Bed 12 -- Stocks booming Con Va 14 1/2, etc

Same -- Evening a heavy snowstorm for an hour or so -- not cold -- About 2 inches of snow on ground at 12 when I went to bed -- still snowing, lightly --

Friday April 17

Moderate and stormy -- Several rain and snow squalls during the day -- about 3 inches of snow on the ground this morning, but melted off rapidly -- very muddy -- Stocks still up & likely to go higher -- Bed at 1 --

Saturday April 18

Variable -- Bed at 12 -- Stox a little off today --

Sunday April 19

Same but pleasant -- about as usual -- WP Bennett of Gold Hill got on to me in the PM and piled a big job of cranky writing about a book he is going to print before long -- Evening at room, Bed at 12 --

Monday April 20

AM clear & pleasant -- PM hazy & cold -- Passed as usual -- Bed 12 -- Was talking hilariously with Dan Davis in the International saloon only about 20 minutes befoe he went up home and died -- showed no sign or inclination of dying -- was smiling and apparently all right -- Mike Conlon was with me and we went to dinner together -- & while eating at the French Rotisserie the news of his death came to us --
