Same -- About town as usual -- Wrote & sent a letter to CC Powning, Reno, congratulating him in his speech of last evening -- Bed 1 --

Thursday Nov 3

Same -- Evening at theater -- Ben Sulby & good dramatic Co in "The Millionaire" -- Good house and exceedingly good play -- Bed 1 --

Friday Nov 4

Same -- Was about town as usual -- Change of RR time -- Trains here leave at 5:45 PM instead of 5:10 -- as heretofore -- Evening about town -- Nothing doing -- Bed at 11 -- Received letter from Powning in response to my congratulatory letter to him thanking me kindly, etc --

Saturday Nov 5

Cloudy & pleasant -- Evening at Opera House -- on the stage hearing Woodburn on the political issues -- Good house -- Bed 1 -- Woodburn 2 hours -- excellent --

Clear cold & pleasant -- Bed 12 --

Clear cool & very pleasant -- Everybody up & down the street studying and discussing the political situation to be decided at tomorrows election -- Evening at Opera

House -- Senator Stewart made his wind-up speech -- 1 hour -- Big audience -- brass band, glee club & good enthusiasm -- Saloons ran most all night -- I was at Enterprise reading proof etc -- Got in my letter from Maggie Moore -- Bed 2 --

Tuesday Nov 8

clear, cool & very pleasant -- The Grand Election Day -- Bands of music and all sorts of transparences, mottoes etc traveling up & down the street [goat wagons?] etc -- Very badly mixed election -- I was about town generally -- Evening ditto -- Bed 1 -

Cleveland Elected -- Australian Ballot Bob Patterson Very Sick -- Maggie Moore -- Ratification Meeting at Carson

Wednesday Nov 9

Cloudy & cold -- Election returns getting in -- look like Cleveland be next President -- Much interest displayed -- Everybody wants to know, etc -- Australian ballot system, adopted by Legislature put into force for first time -- and proved a grand success -- Bed at 1 -- Returns not all in, but Republican party generally left --

Thursday Nov 10

Clear, cool, & very pleasant -- Bob Patterson very sick with pneumonia -- Went down and saw him at 11 in the evening -- made item in Enterprise of him -- Bed 1 --

Friday Nov 11

Same -- Blustering & dusty -- Bed 12 -- Sent three Enterprises to Maggie Moore this evening's mail --

Clear, warm dusty & blustering -- Wrote & sent a nice 4 page letter to Mrs Maggie Moore Williamson, Theater, Christ Church, New Zealand. Postage 5 cts -- Evening excursion train took about 100 to big Stewart ratification meeting in Carson $1 for the round trip - At Enterprise awhile -- Bed 1 --

Bob Patterson Dead -- Exempts Telegraph Cal Pioneers about Patterson

Sunday Nov 13

Clear & pleasant -- Bob Patterson died about 3:30 PM -- He was attended by Drs Manson and Webber. They cupped him this AM, to the extent of 1/2 pint of blood -- His right lung had become solidified, so that he was running on the one lung. could get off a small hacking cough, but too weak to raise off any relief -- So he had to die -- I went up and raised a flag at 1/2 mast on Pioneer Hall -- PM attended regular monthly meeting of the Exempts -- Evening about town -- Bed 11 --

Monday Nov 14

Cloudy & cooler -- 9 AM went up & changed the flag and raised the real old Pioneer flag in place of the other I raised last evening -- Visited Mrs Patterson, and at her request telegraphed to the Secy of the California Pioneers 40 words thus: Robert Patterson, member of your society also of the Pacific Coast Pioneers Society died here last evening, pneumonia, after four days illness. Will be buried Wednesday

Wrote up Patterson for Va Evening Chronicle and later on for Enterprise Bed at 1

Tuesday Nov 15

Same -- At 3 PM attended religious services at Patterson's residence -- Many friends present -- I, acting as President of the Pioneers appointed pall bearers, etc, and at 5:45 we escorted the remains to the RR depot I acting as one of the pall bearers myself. At Carson several Pioneers & friends met us & with myself stood in as pall bearers to the residence where we left the corpse. This was after 7 PM. After that I ran with the undertaker, [Conbvie?], eating & drinking & at 12 got to bed at the Arlington House -- By mail today rec'd Maggie Moore Photos --

Big Fire in Reno -- Patterson's Funeral

Wednesday Nov 16

Clear cold & pleasant -- Up at 9 AM and about town -- Funeral of Patterson at 3 PM from his family residence -- I attended again as pall bearer -- as far as the RR depot, where we all -- eight -- got into a carriage provided for us and rode out to the cemetery, a mile north-east of town. Usual services at the grave, by Rev Hyslop -- Back to Va on evening train -- on time -- Was at Enterprise awhile and wrote up Patterson's Carson funeral episode -- Bed at 2 -- Big fire Virginia street yesterday morning, destroyed several wooden buildings, stores, etc, on east side of Virginia st -- Damage estimated at $16,000 -- Pretty well covered by insurance --

Same -- As usual -- Recd letter from wife with two letters from Bessie -- Also received a package of three photos from Maggie Moore, Adelaide, Southern Australia -- of herself in natural and theatrical characters. Evening at Theater -- Clara Morris and fine dramatic Co in "Claire" -- Splendid emotional play -- good audience -- She & Co came on her own car, attached to the regular AM train, sleeping, eating etc -- Bed at 1. Rec'd today also letter from J P Jones, New York regretting very much his inability to help me [?] the 8th instant -- Also recd letter from John F Pinkham, Marshal of the California Pioneers, San Francisco desiring information of the history of Bob Patterson he being a member of that Society. I replied with a 2 page letter, enclosing clips from Enterprise and Chronicle --

A Nicholls -- Dusty !! -- 1st Sleighing -- Mrs Patterson Big Snow -- 4,500 newspapers

Same -- As usual -- Recd letter from A Nicholls Los Angeles -- Wrote & sent one to Mrs Robt Patterson, Carson City -- Bed 12 --

Same -- Evening visited Mrs Robt Patterson 2 hours -- Bed 1 --

Sunday Nov 20

Same -- Wrote & sent letter to Nicholls -- Was sent for and interviewed by Mrs Patterson in the PM -- Bed 1 --
