Received a letter from wife via Virginia, about her Aunt Lucy's death. aged 79, but stated at 76 -- Died of la grippe & pneumonia. 79 the 6th of next month. "For family reasons she is to be considered three years

younger." Died Saturday morning at 12:07. "passing away as peacefully as a child goes to sleep." Neither of her children with her but Miss Lindsey was. She has been living with her for some time past. Wife writes that Sam is sick with what the Dr says is the first stages of pneumonia. I finished at Cuttings room writing this by the good gaslight at 8:30 -- Was up to the Arlington & elsewhere afterward. Bed at 12. The trouble about Hon JG Fair's property division among his heirs still continues and more actively than ever -- He yielded a numerous crop of "last will and testaments," fresh ones springing up quite frequently. And several women claim to be his latest wives and quite a number of children claim him as their father -- one a child of his deceased son Jimmy, Jr.
