Webster, Atty at Law, Reno, and one to J C Dawson 1321 -- 1 Ave -- Altoona Pa -- Bed at 12:30 -- Dawson said Hassett was his wife's uncle and he is apparently trying to find out if there was any sort of nutriment coming to Mrs Dawson in leavings of coin, property, mines, etc.

Monday Sept 2

Same -- Only forenoon session of court -- letter to Journal -- Evening Salvation Army detachment of 6, 4 men & 2 women were on street with drum, banjo, cornet & guitar -- good singing, praying, exhorting, etc -- Then went to IOOF Hall -- 10 cts admission & took up collection besides -- audience nearly 100 -- singing, dancing, praying etc -- Bed 12 --

Tuesday Sept 3

Same -- Reported Court -- case of Chris Gross for having counterfeiting implements in his possession -- The Judge exercised clemency in Editor H A Lemmon's case, remitting 1/2 of fine and imprisonment -- so he is out again -- Letter from Journal with $10 -- Letter from C H Sproule, Elko -- Evening Salvation Army is last evening -- Total eclipse of the moon at 10 -- Bed 12 --

verdict at 5 PM of "not guilty" -- Trial jurors all discharged & paid off, and court adjourned till 10 AM tomorrow. Letter to Journal -- Evening I wrote a 3 page letter to Webster Patterson, Deputy County Clerk, Elko, at recommendation of Charley Sproule asking for some information I wrote him about regarding Kate Welch, for O T Shuck -- Bed at 1 --

Thursday Sept 5

Same -- No court -- The trial jurors, witnesses, lawyers, detectives all left last evening or tonight -- I sent letter to Journal, Evening wrote one to Shuck with Sproule's letter inclosed also one to Son Alf, to send me Journal of 28th ult. Bed 12 --

Friday Sept 6

Same -- This evening I pencilled out a 4 page letter to Cornelia -- Bed 12

Saturday Sept 7

Same -- Warm & pleasant -- Frank Jennings, the counterfeiter States evidence withdrew his plea of guilty this morning and pleaded not guilty -- Trial set for Nov 25 -- Copied & will mail Cornelia's letter tomorrow -- Bed 1 -- 1st of the great International yacht races today -- Defender win -- My great mining calamity anniversary today of 1854 --

Same -- Sent letter up to the Exempts -- monthly meeting today -- PM I went home with Parson Davis, Sam's father & dined with him & wife -- Pleasant little family time -- Letter from wife inclosing one from Bessie -- She commenced teaching her school last Monday -- the 2nd instant -- Replied to wife this evening -- Bed 1 -- The Durrant murder case is in full progress in San Francisco --

Partially cloudy, blustering & cooler -- Bed 12 --

Tuesday Sept 10

Morning, several smart showers, and in sight the mountains west were white with snow -- 3 inches fell at Marlette Lake -- cloudy all day -- Bed at 12 -- cloudy & threatening -- 1st storm since last of May -- Second big yacht race today -- Valkyrie 111 beat the Defender 47 seconds -- contest is 3 in 5 --

Wednesday Sept 11

Cloudy with occasional light showers -- Letter to Joe Miller and Shuck -- Bed 12 -- Regatta Club decides yesterday's race for Defender through a foul at the start by Valkyrie -- The Lester-Hobart grand wedding in San Francisco took place today --

Thursday Sept 12

Cloudy & blustering -- PM I wrote a 3 page letter to M Kinzle, Nevada City, Cal -- 3d day of the great yacht race -- The Valkyrie III surrendered at the outset, refusing further contest for the cup -- Bed 12 -- cleared off fine --

Friday Sept 13

Same -- cooler -- Rec'd letter from Shuck about Wilson Butler and wife Julia who used to be at Aurna, Esmeralda in 1872 & about that time & before -- She committed suicide one night in bed, shooting at him first, then into herself -- He was Registrar of the US Land Office there -- Is now in Bodie, blacksmithing -- I got all the information Shuck desired, from M R Elstner and Judge M A Murphy, and sent in letter to him this evening -- Also letter to Andrew Nicholls, Los Angeles -- Bed 12 -- Col P J Keyes passed up to Va today on morning train, from San F -- Ice formed about town tonight --

Clear & pleasant -- PM sent letter to Journal and one to Shuck -- Bed at 12 -- Cold & frosty --

Wild game season -- Bill James and the Centennial 1895 -- J A Miller -- A Nicholls -- My Hay Fever starts in Dr Dawson, Reno, dead -- Wife & Bessie, with Bessie's photo -Powning Methodist church reception to New pastor Rev J M Wilson --

Clear and pleasant -- The "close season" being over with yesterday numerous hunters were out after wild fowl, at Washoe Lake up the river, etc,

today all meeting good success -- I wrote letters to Joe Miller and to A Nicholls, telling them I met W S James last evening at train, on his way to S.F. -- and what he told me about Centennial, which he visited a week ago last Wednesday. Thought more of it than ever. Bed 12 -- My regular hay fever started in on time this morning, and by night my nose was running good, eyes watery, sneezing, etc -- Dr A Dawson of Reno, died there yesterday -- 50 yrs old -- from injuries in being thrown out of his buggy three weeks ago --

Same -- Rec'd letter from wife with one from Bessie & her photo -- Very nice portrait of Bessie -- She has started in teaching her school -- 1st rate -- Evening I wrote response to wife -- Bed 12 -- Sneezes, nose bad, etc --

Tuesday Sept 17

Same -- Evening attended Methodist church reception of new pastor, Mr J M Wilson -- Songs, music, etc -- Other preachers present gave hand of fellowship in nice little speeches -- Bed at 12 -- Sent letter to Powning -- $30 --
