Sunday Sept 29 Same -- PM cloudy & rather blustering -- Wrote & mailed a letter to Eunice, enclosing Lizzie's letter to me -- At home most of the day -- Jack Furlong was taken to Carson on the morning train -- Evening at home -- Bed at 11 --

Monday Sept 30 Clear & pleasant -- About town day & evening -- $5 from Journal office -- Bed 12 -- Jack Furlong died last night at Carson -- His bowels were found to be badly, fatally ruptured --

Tuesday Oct 1, 1895 Clear & pleasant -- AM about town -- Left on local passenger train at 1:45 PM for Carson -- The dust of the train aggravated my eyes & nose, and I felt bad -- saw Jack Furlong's funeral coming back from cemetery as I arrived at Carson -- Found letter at PO from Kinzle, Nevada City -- At 7 oclock I felt so miserable, chilly, and used up that I went to bed, piling on all the clothes I could get hold of -- Guess I've got cold -- Bad night of it --Ormsby District Fair commenced here today -- No Pavilion display -- Races in PM --

Wednesday Oct 2 Same -- Left my room at 10 AM, feeling much better from my 15 hours rest -- 46 yrs since I arrived at S.F. -- PM I attended the Fair races -- Pretty

Thursday Oct 3 Same & sent letter to Jos A Miller, Austin, and to Reno Journal -- Evening Opera House -- the band concert, stereopticon, and bell till 12 -- good dance music as I ever heard at a ball -- Bed 12:30 -- cold -- This was "Reno Day" -- Big crowd from Reno & many from Comstock -- Races lively -- Dr JC Hazlett died at his home in Dayton this morning, aged 67 yrs & 4 mos -- Have been of warm, friendly acquaintance* with him there, ever since I have been in Nevada --

Friday Oct 4 Same -- PM at the races, etc -- Evening, Opera House -- Band concert & views -- big crowded house -- Bed 12 -- Comstock payroll for September, $66,322,41 --

Saturday Oct 5 Same --warmer -- PM I attended the races -- big crowd -- biggest yet, & great sport -- Senator Jones among those in the Judges' stand -- Evening at Opera House -- Band concert and views, closing with ball -- crowded house -- Bed 12 -- Letter to Journal by evening train -- And so closes the Fair -- Been big success throughout -- Reno paid band, 14 pieces, $650.00. Carson paid

it $725.00 being $75 more for transportation between Reno & Carson -- Senator J P Jones & wife came down from Gold Hill last evening -- Stopping with Yerington -- The band was out serenading A Livingston, et al after midnight.

Sunday Oct 6

Same -- About town -- Sam Davis had a sort of a blowout at his Holstein ranch this PM, entertaining the Nevada Press Association, Agricultural Society officers, etc -- I was invited but missed the carriage provided, and wouldnt walk three miles. Evening I wrote a two page letter to Andrew Nicholls, Los Angeles -- Bed 12 -- The band and the tent show left on the evening train, together with many gamblers, -- Fair followers, etc -- Big crowd at depot saw them off --

Clear & very pleasant -- One more day of the races, to finish -- several good races, and good attendance -- PM I wrote letters to wife, Wm Webster of the Journal, and Fred W Fairbanks of the Lyon County Times, Dayton -- Bed 12 -- The races today were made up by the horsemen, sports, etc -- ended tonight --

Same -- Letter from Joe Miller, Austin, declining and returning the 200 shares -- Bed 12 -- Met at the 10 AM train from Va Chas H Fish, Prest of the Con Va & Cal, on his return to SF after a short Comstock visit -- good old Comstock friends --

Saturday Oct 12

Cloudy but pleasant -- Unwell today from bad loose, bowels -- At evening train met L W Getchell returning from short visit to the Comstock -- On his return to Silver City, Idaho where he is engaged in mining operations -- His son Noble nearly 21 yrs old is there with him -- Getchell's wife & Mrs Booth, her mother are at Seattle living -- The "Carson Home Mission," opened this evening next door to Tim Dempsey's saloon -- I attended - Got up by Ed Lee, a colored evangelist resident of Carson -- was assisted by Rev Mr

Clear warm & pleasant -- As usual -- John Mackay passed on the down train this evening from Va for San F -- Evening I wrote and copied a long four page letter to J P Jones, Gold Hill, all about Como and the "mines" of Palmyra Dist -- Took me till 4 o'clock -- Bed -- Wrote & sent a 2 page letter to J A Miller, Austin, this evening --

Same -- Sent my letter to Jones by morning train at 10 -- Evening train I sent a 2 page letter to wife in reply to one I received this morning, with one from Bessie inclosed -- At evening train I met Senator Jones & wife, on my way to San F -- Had short chat with him -- Had rec'd & read my letter, etc -- To be gone below for a week & return -- Evening wrote a letter for Dempsey replying to a letter from Reno to him signed "Maude" -- Bed 1 -- The sale of the Buckeye place mining property, some 35 miles southeast of here, last Saturday consumated, creates quite a sensation -- Lane, Hayward & Hobart of
