St Patrick's Day -- Clear & springlike & much the finest day of the season -- Court room crowded, many women present -- Woodburn for the defense spoke 2 hours in the AM, and Genl Clarke for the prosecution 2 1/2 hours in the PM & court adjourned till 10 AM tomorrow -- Met J W Tangerman the obnoxious new Supt of the Hale & Norcross this PM, together with Jerry Lynch, the new President of the Co. They came here on business for the Co.

Disagrees -- 7 to 5 -- J P Jones -- Webster with $10
Spring Weather -- P J Keyes -- Wife & Bessie

Wednesday March 18

Same -- Jones case concluded, and submitted to the jury at 11:45 AM -- Recess

Thursday March 19

Same -- Jury came in about noon, saying could not agree -- Judge sent them back -- at 7 PM they came in again in the same fix & were discharged -- 7 or conviction & 5 for acquittal -- Got all into my report to Journal in time -- Letter from wife & Bessie and one from J P Jones, Washington, DC & one from Webster with $10 -- Spring weather last day or two -- 62 to 64 degrees.

Friday March 20

Variable & cooler -- Sent letter to Journal -- Evening at theater -- Katie Putnam and good little dramatic Co in "The Old Lime Kiln" -- Very lively & amusing -- Good house -- Bed 1 --
