Capitol awhile hunting up some old legislative bills of this session -- some for John B Gallagher about Lyon County Bonds -- ex Senator of Mason Valley, Lyon County -- Nevada -- Mary Williams, heretofore my landlady ceased as such and evacuated the premises this day. Therefore I am an orphan -- Bed 12 --

Variable & cold -- Bed 12 -- Change in landladies -- May Williams quit & pulled out yesterday -- So Mrs Rickle the proprietress came in temporarily till she can get in somebody else -- Mrs Rickel came in today and resumed possession -- Had Mrs Parker, formerly of Reno with her and we had an interview on the subject -- Mrs Parker thinks of taking the concern --

Kinzle, Nevada City Cal -- Also 2 page letter to wife -- Bed 11:30 -- I had this lodging house all alone today -- no other lodger, and no new landlady -- Take care of my own room -- Snow most all gone, streets dusty -- good bicycling -- In letter to wife I sent for my old trunk --

Monday April 5

Clear and very Springlike -- Got letter from Henry Rives, Eureka, via Salt Lake -- Will hear from [him] again shortly with $35 -- I slept alone in my lodging house last night -- Only lodger -- and no new landlady as yet -- Hugh Castle is a Carson boy who managed to get in with his little camera and took two snap shot pictures -- One of the 4th round and one of the 14th showing the rush on the stage after the knockout of Corbett -- Wasn't quite quick enough to catch the knockout itself, best scene of all -- US Grand Jury in session today -- Judge Hawley sat down on Sam Davis of the Carson Appeal considerably as can be seen by clippings from the

Tuesday April 6

Very high west wind all day & clouds of dust -- Sky-light of my lodging house blew off at 2:30 while I was in my room, with a smash of glass -- I picked up the glass which fell in the hallway and went to Mrs Kinckel's house, the proprietor & informed her of the trouble -- She got George Wilcox, carpenter, to fix it -- Four lights of glass broken -- sash twisted off the hinges, etc -- Evening wind moderated -- Bed 11 -- clear & freezing a little -- US Grand Jury completed its labors, reported and was discharged -- Only found a few indictments for selling liquor to Indians, counterfeiting etc -- Evening I sent a letter to John R White 1122 Pine st San Francisco --

Clear & fine, but cool -- Evening sent another letter to John R White, 1122 Pine st, San Francisco -- Jack Bradley, for many years a resident of the Comstock, generally connected with the police and fire departments died there yesterday of pneumonia -- Bed 12 -- clear & a little frosty --

an Indian, at Mason Valley, Feb 13th is progressing at Dayton this week and creates much interest among the Indians generally & many of them gathering at Dayton and the court room -- I got letter from wife today & replied to it -- Quite a number of Carsonites went catfishing today at Washoe Lake -- caught lots of them, but not very good fishing generally -- didn't bite well -- Bed 12 --

Same -- more so -- Logan's trial for killing Jim King, Indian, Feb 13 in Mason Valley, concluded today, with a sentence of 30 years in State Prison -- To come up tomorrow in court -- Folsom vs Marlette case argued & submitted in Supreme Court today -- Bed 12 -- Letter from John R White

Saturday April 10

Same -- The funeral of Capt Haynie this PM, was largely attended -- The Grand Army Custer Post, G.A.R. did the military honors -- Wm McCluen, yardmaster of the RR depot lost both legs below the knee this morning by a heavily loaded box car passing over them -- He accidentally slipped in adjusting the brake -- Dr Byrne who took the Keeley cure here about 3 yrs ago and afterward lectured on the subject eulogistically, and has since resided in San F. returned yesterday to take the cure again -- very

Durrant to be Hanged June 11th Kinetoscope -- Joe R Ryan vs Cronan Saturday continued -- Hale & Norcross Fight

Durrant was resentenced to be hanged this morning in SF and taken to San Quentin State Prison this PM -- To be hanged there June 11th -- This PM I attended argument before Supreme Court of petition for mandamas to oust Cronan, Supt of Hale & Norcross mine and put Joe Ryan the newly elected Supt in his place -- Lawyer Baggett of SF. for Cronan spoke 1 1/2 hours -- Deal for Ryan -- Case continued till 10 AM Monday --

Same -- Bundle of 3 copies of the Students Record, a monthly little magazine got up by the students, etc, articles, meritorious, etc by Sammy and his mother, which interested me much -- PM was in Supreme Court awhile listening to Lawyer Baggett in the Hale & Norcross Supt fight -- He is abnormally long winded -- on a post mortem argument, especially -- like that of Saturday PM -- Streets very dusty -- Bed 12 -- The editors of our two Carson dailies are at war of crimination and recrimination -- giving each
