Friday Sept 3

Cloudy, cool & breezy -- Sent my Fred Hart up to Va Chronicle, but it didn't appear in paper this evening -- Bed 11 --

Saturday Sept 4

Clear & fine -- 80° -- My letter returned from the Chronicle this morning -- Took it to the Appeal, read proof of it this evening -- Manager Coleman is sending it back indorsed on it "Guess will let the Hart matter stay as it is -- How are you, old man" -- Mrs Evan David badly hurt at race track early this evening, run into by a bike practicing for race with Reno boys -- quite a crowd of spectators & lots of bikes -- broke collar bone, cut head, severely bruised & strained -- Big heavy woman -- Sent a puff for Circe's hotel to the Journal this evening -- Bed 10 --

Same - 82° -- My Fred Hart in Appeal -- full column -- Sent letter to wife -- Bed 11 --

Monday Sept 6

Clear & windy -- 75° -- Miss Emma Tousic suicide this morning at Gardnerville -- About 23 yrs old -- used to belong to the Salvation Army here, but left it -- Never very sound headed & got worse of late - Got letter from wife

today & sent her 1 in return -- Jake Strait nearly 60 years old died yesterday here from immoderate indulgence in cold water drinking -- Was Salvation Army convert and joined the Presbyterian church -- Found this PM by the AOUW, he a member -- Bed 11

Tuesday Sept 7

Same -- colder -- PM 60° -- I am preparing to get my trunk, valise, etc out of my lodgings, as being in way of the mechanics in the finishing up of the renovating job -- Expect to move out tomorrow -- Letter, short, from J P Jones NY -- Been detained longer than expected but hoped to come on shortly -- Bed at 11 for last time in my lodgings at present --

Wednesday Sept 8

Same -- Heavy frost last night -- 29° -- killed cucumber, tomato, & other vines, beans, etc -- at State Prison especially -- I got my trunk, valise, etc out and down stairs, vacating -- About noon was up stairs and gave up my keys to Mrs Rinckel -- Visited

Moved to Alta Lodging House -- Frost -- Bedbugs Moved to Arlington -- Hatband -- Mrs Frank Langan Dies Sisters of Charity and Washoe Club Evacuate

Judge Massey at his office in State House -- Went to Alta lodging house and paid $4.50 for room 10 til Oct 1 -- Paid it to landlady Mrs Ida Francis -- Took valise & overcoat to the room & took possession -- Evening about town -- Bed 11 -- cold -- 48° --

Thursday Sept 9

Cloudy & cold -- Some frost early this morning -- 39° -- and rained hard at Reno & elsewhere, but none here -- The Sisters of Charity abandoning Va including convent school, hospital etc -- and the closing of the famous Washoe Club, marks an era in the history and decline of Va and the old Comstock -- Rose at 7 AM after a hard bedded nights sleep, disturbed by plenty of bedbugs -- I found & killed 2 or 3 dozen -- About noon got my landlady in to see the business -- induced her to pay me back $3.50, leaving $1.00 for my nights lodging, then took my valise & overcoat back to Dempsey's -- Bed 11, at Arlington -- Paid $1 for 3 nights, in advance -- took valise along -- Room 24 --

Friday Sept 10

Same -- 50° -- New hatband -- other small jobs -- Bed 11 -- clear & 43° -- Nellie, wife of F P Langan, Dist Atty, Va died there yesterday -- childbirth

$10 Yerington -- A Como Mine Bonded -- New Purse Bicycle Relay & Excursion at Reno -- I went also I in Reno at Home -- Dan M Glaster

Saturday Sept 11

Variable, fine, cool -- 55° -- Borrowed $10 from H M Yeringon -- Getting ready for Reno tomorrow Bed 11 -- Logan & Hully mine, Como, bonded to Pick Bros -- Bought a new purse today, for 35 cts, to replace the empty one picked from my pocket March 17th, at the Fitz-Corbett fight --

Sunday Sept 12

Cloudy & cool -- Rose at 6 -- Excursion special train, to Reno Carson bicycle club vs Reno club -- 50 mile relay race over the Reno race track -- I went -- Train of 3 coaches, & a box car for bikes, etc, 1 locomotive -- left at 8:10 AM -- About 150 on board -- Met incoming express train at Steamboat -- Reno at 9:15 -- express carriage took me for 25 cts home with my valise -- Found everybody all right -- Big crowd at depot -- Race commenced at 1:30 PM -- Reno beat Carson by 1 1/8 miles -- Return train for Carson at 5 PM -- Only $1 for round trip, so I saved a dollar without taking the return -- Didn't attend the race -- Was about town among friends -- Supper at home -- Bed 10 -- Met Dan M Gloster in Reno this PM -- still engaged at ranching with his family in Sierra Valley, Cal. and still circulating about in life insurance etc -- I slept in son Alf's bed, & he slept upstairs --

I in Reno -- Craven-Fair Case -- Cornelia -- More Gold Bad Game of "Freeze Out" -- Bill Gibson and W A McIntosh Return

Monday Sept 13

Clear & fine -- About town most of day -- Bed 10 --

Tuesday Sept 14

Same -- Decision against Mrs Craven today in the famous Fair, will case in San F -- jury disagreed, standing 8 for her & 4 for Fair -- Judge Slack then decided against her, & for the heirs of James G Fair

Same -- warmer -- PM wrote a nice long 5 page letter & mailed to Cornelia -- Evenings at home thus far -- Bed 10 -- John W Mackay arrived at San F from NY Monday --

Friday Sept 17

Cloudy -- PM a very light shower of rain -- W A McIntosh, carpenter & builder, Va City, who left July 12 for visit to old home in Canada returned this morning -- W D C Gibson returned this PM, with horse & buckboard from a two wks trip prospecting over in Sierra and Plumas Cos -- He found more chills & fever than gold -- Bed 10 -- H H Beck beat M Cooper terribly about the head this evening with a metal crib board at Elite Saloon -- quarreled over a game of "freeze out" --

Clear warm & pleasant -- Sent letter to Carson Postmaster to forward my letters to me here till end of next week -- Rec'd through mail complimentory season ticket to State Fair, holding next week -- Evening down town awhile -- Salvation Army out, etc -- Bed 11 -- my boys had two of
