will this evening from Gold Hill, to speak here -- My last letter to Wells Herald returned today, published all right -- 2 cols -- Evening I attended last Silver party rally of the campaign at Opera House -- bonfires & anvils, but no music -- plenty of thin music inside -- crowded house -- Speakers were Genl JC Hagerman, Chas D Lane, the rich owner in Utica mine, Angel's Cal, chairman of the National Silver Party, Mr MF Taylor, a leading [bimetallist?] of Colorado, & fine speaker, Senator Jones, Senator Stewart, Sam Davis and Gov Sadler -- All did well, and meeting closed at 10:30 -- Home & bed at 11 --

Variable -- blustering -- candidates stirring around lively, Reno seemingly being considered the chief battle-ground of the campaign -- Morning train from Cal very late, so the V & T passenger express did not leave till 11 AM. On it were Stewart and Jones, Gov Sadler and Sam Davis for Carson -- Jones for Gold Hill -- Had brief interview with him in the car. Evening the train for Cal, due at 8, did not come -- big fire at tunnel 13, west of Truckee -- It was cancelled to arrive tomorrow sometime -- Bed 10.
