Clear, fine & warm -- Reported Legislature as usual -- Received my $5 salary from Journal due for last week to Saturday, from Nate Roff -- Evening sent a 2 page letter to M H de Young, "personal" -- concerning my report of the Lincoln County railroad matter -- The new Comstock drainage pump in the C & C shaft started into practical operation today and worked even better than was anticipated -- seems like a big substantial success right at the start -- Bed 11 --

Same -- Evening I sent letter to my old friend John H Dennis, Reno, inclosing picture of Dr Washington Ayer whom he knew at time of my Fort John calamity in 1854 -- John attended me there like a more than brother and I owe him a debt of gratitude I can never repay -- Recd letter from Wife asking me to not come home again, because our children don't like me -- Is it seperation? Great God! Bed 12 -- John G Cartter a prominent old resident of Carson & big friend of mine died here this morning of heart failure -- 58 yrs old native of Oswego N York --
