Francisco telegram to be dead -- Bells tolled and flags 1/2 mast -- directly came another, saying not dead -- False alarm -- but very low and hopeless case -- matter of very short time -- When I went to bed at 11, no later news -- work about midnight I think, hearing a bell tolling -- so thought President dead.

Saturday Sept 14

Same - Telegrams & papers say President McKinley died at 2:15 AM -- difference in time 3 hours, gave us the news at 11:15 hence the bell tolling I heard -- got letter from Leon M Hall accompanying three views of the Floriston Electric Power works, on Truckee river -- also other items I wrote him for -- Met Billy Cann at morning train -- told me to drop a line to his drug store in Reno for picture of Gold Hill, he forgot to bring along for me, on his way to Va. I sent note this evening accordingly -- President died quietly, and almost imperceptibly -- His last words were: "Thy will, not ours be done" -- Telegraph reports great excitement against the prisoners and all anarchists, in Buffalo, Chicago, etc -- Flags at 1/2 mast all over Carson today, and all State offices closed -- also mint & other US offices, except Post office -- Vice President Roosevelt took the oath of office as President this PM -- Bed 11:30 --

Sunday Sept 15
