Swelling nearly all disappeared -- Very sore over & about the tooth yet -- But great improvement -- My good old friend and Pioneer Gotth Haist of Virginia, died there at 7:30 last evening, after a long illness -- Nearly 80 yrs old -- Bed 10:30 -- Fearful ferry accident in SF Bay yesterday evening -- Ferry boats Sancelito and San Rafael collided in thick fog -- 400 passengers -- some lost --

Stormy -- PM strong showers -- blustering from the SW -- The Wedekind Case came to submission on points and arguments to the Judge who will hold it under consideration for a while -- Bed 11 -- Storming furiously -- Would have attended the funeral of Gotth Haist -- today, but simply couldn't -- Bed 11 -- For full particulars about Billy Crandall see last page of this book.

Clear & pleasant -- Old Jim Orndorff, a Comstock old timer, and Latterly of San Francisco saloon business, etc, came on morning train & will go on to Tonopah tomorrow -- Had not met him for about 15 or 20 years -- Bed 10 -- Recd letter from Geo E Roberts in response to mine of Nov 25th --

Stormy -- AM light snowstorms -- Big ones in the mountains all day -- PM I went with Andy Roberts on a visit to his family up stairs over his saloon, with Cyrille Ourlette -- His daughters sang and played for us very finely -- Recd letter from wife with $5 -- Bed 10:50 --

Saturday Dec 7

Clear & cold -- but pleasant -- Heaviest frost this morning -- coldest day and night -- Bed 10 -- James Heney took the pauper's oath today and was released from State Prison after being in there six years for robbing the US Mint, Carson City --

Same -- PM wrote letter to send to the Tonopah Bonanza -- 2 pages -- Bed 11

Stormy in the mountains all day, with a few sprinkles in Carson -- Heavy blustering SW winds -- Rose early, at 6, & wrote about a column letter to the Gardnerville Record -- mailed it by morning stage, also mailed my letter to the Tonopah Bonanza on morning train -- PM, visited Prof Ring at

Stormy in the mountains, and a little snow about town -- Very cold & disagreeable -- Completed and sent 4 page letter to SL Tribune -- also private letter 1 page to Nelson, Managing Editor, asking why and wherefore my last letter was not published -- of the 28th. Evening at Opera House play of "Hunting for Hawkins" by a travelling troupe -- Slim house -- I wasn't there -- but those that were said it was a very good performance -- Bed 12 --

Same -- worked extra hard today and completed my write up of Nevada for the SL Tribune and sent it off by evening mail -- 10 pages -- will make about 2 1/2 columns -- or 3 -- Evening I was up stairs in Andy Robert's family and the girls sang and played me much fine music -- and I sang them "Shoo-la-gra" and "Little Boy Blue," and played some on the mouth organ -- Had real nice time -- Miss Ida Robert gets married to Prof Allan Leavitt on Sunday next -- Bed 11 --
