JENNIE WORRELL'S FALL.

The Once Popular Actress Sentenced to the Workhouse at New York for Intoxication.

NEW YORK, May 25.--Jennie Worrell, a once-popular actress, was to-day sentenced to the workhouse for five days. While intoxicated Sunday night she entered a police station and acted uproariously. Her arrest followed.

The Worrell sisters, Irene, Sophie and Jennie, were the reigning queens of burlesque in this country thirty years ago. They were the first Americans to make that style of stage entertainment profitably popular. Jennie was the youngest of the three sisters. She went to England a dozen years ago and is said to have been married to the owners of a British title. Against the wishes of her oldest sister, Irene, Sophie was married to George S. Knight. Irene went out West and was last heard of as an entertainer in variety theatres in the mining camps of Montana and Colorado.

A few hours after being sentenced the committing magistrate was told who Jennie Worrell was. The Judge had her brought before him again and held a private conversation, at the conclusion of which he signed a paper discharging Jennie from Custody. It appears the unfortunate woman just came from England, where her husband died two years ago. She came here looking for her sisters. While on that quest she became penniless and disheartened and intended committing suicide. It was to relieve the high nervous tension she labored under that she drank. The Actors' Fund will furnish the once noted actress with money to relieve her pressing needs.

Charles A. Jones favored conciliation and proposed that measures be adopted to effect a union of the two factions of the party. It was decided to hold a mass convention at Reno on Wednesday, June 16th, for the purpose of electing six delegates to the National Convention.
