Monday Jan 12 Clear & pleasant - At 7:10 AM left on train for Carson - Very sharp frosty morning - found the Leavitt troupe of comedians, specialists, etc, on board, en route for Va city to perform there tonight - Jolly set of fellows - Carson at 8 1/2 - Got shaved - breakfast - At 11 was at opening of Senate - PM drew the requisite stationery from the Secy of State for my Engrossing clerk business & took it to my room - Met lots of old acquaintances Evening, about town - Home at 11 - Bed at 12 -

Saturday Jan 17 The same - Was about town some & met lots os acquaintances - Also shopping some with wife - Evening she & I visited the Lindsays short time, also Mrs Hewlett formerly of Como - She keeps a lodging house here - Her husband Lon Hewlett died here twoyears ago next month - Home - read - Bed at 11 -

Sunday Jan 18 The same - very fine day - With wife attended services at ME Church - Rev Mr Lucas - Fine music & good sermon - good attendance - Then we took Alf & Goodie for a walk out about a mile & a half to where R R track intersects the river - Good view of river - Evening at home - Bed 10 1/2 -

$42 more pay My First Bill Engrossed Monday Jan 19 Clear & pleasant - Took breakfast with family and at 10 minutes of 9 AM, left on local train for Carson - Freight & wood train, with passenger coach on behind - Carson at 10 minutes of 11 - Just 2 hours - Went to room few minuts, then to Senate chamber - At noon recess I drew my warrant for 7 days pay - $42 - This

PM I got my first bill to engross. It was Senate Bill No 19. "An Act to provide for the Destruction of Noxious Animals within this State." Took it home, and in the evening engrossed it in good shape -- That is to say, I copied it, putting in the amendment in proper place, and editing the bill properly -- Took me till about 9 oclock -- Then I was about town a short time -- Home -- Bed at 12 1/2 --

The same -- Got two more bills to engross today. An Act to repeal an Act, entitled An Act Supplemental to an Act entitled an act to provide revenue for the support of the government of the State of Nevada -- Also "An Act to regular the issuance of Court Orders." Getchell was elected in joint convention this PM, Regent of the State University -- I gave Nick Anderew3s $30 to pay to Jane Noble, that I owed her when she left Austin -- She is in Gold Hill, and Nick is one of tohe Assemblymen from there and going up on a short visit this evening -- Met Ed ...

Ed Harris New Table Engrossing Success

...Harris in town yesterday and saw him off on 10 AM local train for his mine near Washoe City -- Evening I engrossed the two bills at home, on my new table 2 1/2 x 5 ft just completed at noon today for me by a carpenter -- Was made to my order and is very convenient size for the business -- State pays for it -- Bed at 2 --

The same -- Spring weather -- In senate today my three engrossments of bills were reported upon by the Engrossing Committee as correctly engrossed, and were passed -- First blood for Doten -- Attended both sessions of Senate today -- PM another bill went to engrossment but I could not get hold of it -- Evening about town -- Home and wrote, etc -- Bed at 12 1/2 -- Got letter from Andrew Lawson, American Flat, today --

The same -- Got three more bills to engross today -- Evening I attended grand convention of the State Teachers' Institute, in Senate Chamber -- Very fully attended -- Special train brought all from the Comstock & vicinity -- Biggest lot of school-marms I ever saw at one time -- Met Cassie Henderson, Fanny Robinson & others -- Big delegation of Red Men also came down with them, to big installation here this evening -- Special train took them all back again at midnight -- Found lots ...
