Monday Feb 2

Clear & very pleasant - A fine shower or so, early this morning laid the dust very effectually & cleared atmosphere spendidly - Had no more bills to engross today - attended session - PM joint session of both houses in Assembly chamer - chose Frank Bell State Prison Warden (re-elected) by unanimous Republican majority, the 14 Democratic votes being given complimentary, to O K Stampley - PM I wrote a bill for George M Stewart entitled "An Act for the better protection of Merchants, wholesale dealers and business men generally" - To be introduced ito the Legislature shortly - Evening about town - Met Stewart & gave him the Bill - Bed at 12 - Drew my 4th salary $42 today -

The same - a little cloudy - I reported the Legislature for the Enterprise today in place of Shaw, editor of the Enterprise who has been doing it - Got my report in full, off by the 5:15 PM train for Virginia - Got longest bill yet, this PM, to engross - Senator (Pete Markus) bill relative to reclamation of arable lands in this State - Evening attended first annual Piano Recital given by Philip Krall & his pupils at the Armory Hall, just north of the depot - Densely crowded - Had special invite but couldnt get in - staid on outside in armory adjoining where I

The same - Attended session - got 2 more bills to engross - Evening I engrossed them - Took 5 hours good work - One bill was Senate Bill No 59 "An Act Providing for the adoption of children" and the other Senate Bill No 57 - "An act to amend an Act entitled "An act to amend an Act entitled An Act for the relief of Insolvent Debtors and Protection of creditors" - This makes 17 bills engrossed by me - Shaw was on duty again today Bed at 2 -

Thursday Feb 5

Clear, warm, and the finest Spring day I have seen for years - Everybody enjoyed it - I worked hard most of the day at engrossing - Had one long one, Senate Bill No 21, "An Act to Reclaim the Arable Desert Lands, and Develop the Agri -

Silver Society tomorrow -- PM legislature adjourned over till Monday -- Evening attended a glove (sluggory) match at Opera House -- between Elliot and Edwards -- a white man and a colored man -- crowded house -- Had good place on stage, behind the wings -- comp ticket -- 24 ft ring -- ropes -- 5 rounds -- darkey got whipped -- 20 minutes -- Home at 12 1/2 -- slept on bed in clothes till 4 -- rose & wrote 79 for Enterprise --

Clear & pleasant -- Got my letter off on morning train for Va at 8:35 -- took it to depot -- put it in mail car -- PM I attended meeting of the Sivler Society, in Senate chamber -- CC Stevenson, President, presided -- adopted by-laws, etc and got

Vice Prest, & I acted as installing officer by request -- Meeting lasted about 2 hours -- Then we were at Spiro's and other places a while -- Visited the Sheriffs office and also Piper's new Opera house which is now building & is over half done -- Took eveningtrain at 5:30 PM for Carson -- $1.50 for the round trip -- At Carson I got ticket & went on to Reno -- arrived at usual time -- Stevenson and old Pratt on train -- S bound for Los Angeles -- I found my folks all right & not expecting me-- Bed at 11 --

Clear & pleasant -- Wife at school -- AM took Sam, Alf, & Goddie down town -- & we all had our hair trimmed except Goodie-- Was about shopping, more or less -- also took walk up the river with the children -- Evening went with wife & took a look at a house belonging to Hoffman of the brewery -- Liked it and engaged it -- Bed at 11 -- Mother fixed me up full suit of new underclothes today & I wore them --

Clear & very pleasant -- Slept till 9 -- attended session -- No engrossing to do this day -- Dined at George A. Morrison's, Hon JA Strok assemblyman from Nye County also there -- Morrison & wife & 3 children -- Nice dinner -- spent evening there talking over old times, etc. -- Home at 11 --Bed at 1 -- This PM I engrossed a letter for Hon John Smyth, of the Senate, to Hon Jas G Fair U S Senator, Washington D.C.
