Bonnifield is his lawyer -- Goes before the State Board of Examiners this PM at Carson -- I took down all the items from Bonnifield, for Enterprise -- and he presented me with $5 -- Found Virginia all right -- Worked hard -- Evening while at table in office writing up my items [sentence erased: my Reno veal stew worked on me -- tried to get home but shit myself badly going down the office stairs -- Had a nasty job of it at home for about an hour --?] office again till 2 -- Bed at 3 --

Dirty clothes Nofsinger gets $1150 -- Postal order $20 to wife fair

Tuesday April 21

Clear & pleasant -- Rose at 10 -[sentence erased: [illegible] to take my dirty drawers to [wash?] and some other clothes for $1 --?] PM about town as usual -- Through at office at 2 -- About down town awhile, talking etc -- Bed at 3 -- Today at Carson, Nofsinger was awarded the $500 reward for capturing the murderer, Clarence Gray, & will consequently get the other rewards offered -- $1150 in all --

Wednesday April 22

The same -- Got a $20 postal order today and mailed it in letter to wife -- U S Senator Jas G Fair arrived at Carson this morning from Washington -- Came up here this PM in a buggy, arriving at about 5 PM -- At 8 he had a grand serenade by

Fair on the Comstock Dondero Eunice

[Cara's?] band -- Big crowd, on C st in front of International, -- I was up to his reception, in parlor, & had shake hands & glass of wine with him, & others -- Quite crowd in parlor -- Then all went out on front balcony, where he made short speech to crowd -- M N Stone, D E McCarty & Bob Keating also spoke, and each wound up by inviting the crowd up to refreshments -- It came like the locusts in Egypt, & in 10 minutes not a drink or a cigar left -- Through in office at 2 -- Bed 2:30

Thursday April 23

The same -- Fair about town -- Work at usual -- Bed at 2 -- Got letter from Chas Dondero, 535 Washington at San Francisco today -- Also one from Sister Eunice --

A Fair Shootist Squelched -- Fair treatment $50

Friday April 24

The same -- Senator Fair was about town & the mining works considerably today, seeing lots of friends & the people generally -- An old crank names Knapp was around him this PM for short time & followed him up having some words with him in relation to a lot sold by Knapp to the Gould & [Curry?] for dump ground some time ago -- Knapp threatened to shoot Senator but was arrested and jailed by Sheriff -- Fair was at office this PM & saw Col Shaw, & gave him a $50 greenback -- left another with him to give me, of $50 -- in appreciative acknowledgement of courtesies in the paper -- Very nice -- He left on the evening train for San F. I was down to depot &

Clear warm & pleasant -- Work as usual -- Col Shaw, our chief editor went to Carson on evening train, so I had to do the Eastern telegraph, etc, in addition to my regular duties tonight -- Got along 1st rate -- Through at 2 -- Bed at 3 -- Got letter from Summerfield, Austin today, asking about disposal of my workbench, etc in old cabin --

Sunday April 26

Cloudy & blustering & cool till toward evening, when a light snowstorm, set in, & continued -- Slept till noon -- PM at office short time -- At home more -- At 8 went to old Pioneer Hall to meeting of the old stiffs -- Only about 8 present -- About town awhile -- Home at 11 -- still snowing Read wrote etc -- Bed at 3 -- Snowing lightly --

Monday April 27

Cloudy & threatening -- Rose at 10 -- Was about town considerably -- At 2 PM went to office & work -- Kept at it pretty steadily till I got through at 2 oclock -- 12 hours -- Big local -- Bed at 3 -- [phrase erased] About 12 oclock fine shower set in & kept at it moderately yet steadily till after I went to bed -- Odd

Fellows Social at National Guard Hall tonight -- I could go but didn't -- This was in honor of 69th anniversary of Odd Fellowship -- Big time --

Tuesday April 28

Morning some smart hailstorms -- PM sky variable -- Work as usual -- Evening reported monthly meeting of Board of School Trustees at Dr. [Conn's?] office -- Column or more to report -- Through in office at 2 -- Bed at 3 -- I got a postal order today of $6 to send to Summer field to pay Mike Finigan and other expenses attendant upon packing and sending my things from Austin --

Wednesday April 29

Sky variable -- Wrote a letter to wife this PM & sent it on evening train, I enclosed one new pass over the V & T RR inviting her to come up on a visit next

Saturday or Sunday -- Evening, Col Shaw was on one of his [Gambling?] and drinking spells & was only in the office working half an hour during the entire run of the work -- I stood in on his part of the work and fixed up all the telegraph etc -- in fact got up about the whole paper myself -- Through at 1 1/2 -- Home -- Wrote a long 4 page letter to Sardis Summerfield Austin, enclosing the $6 postal order I bought yesterday -- Bed at 4 -- tired --

Thursday April 30

The same -- several fine showers during the day -- Night clear & fine -- Work as usual -- Mailed my letter to Summerfield -- Through in office at 2 -- Bed at 2 1/2 --
