Cloudy & chilly & blustering, with occasional snowflakes in the air -- As usual -- Through tonight at 1 1/2 -- Bed at 2 -- ground white with snow & a few sprinkles still coming down -- Mike Farrell & wife from Austin on a visit to Gold Hill --

Thursday May 14

The same -- Quite a hail storm about 11 AM -- More during PM -- Got letter from wife -- death notice in it, clipped from SF Chronicle of death of Mrs Hiler, at Butte Montana, May 6 -- aged 67 yrs -- remains brought to Oakland for burial -- I got through at 12:40 tonight -- Bed at 2:40 -- Almost freezing

Friday May 15

The same -- no hail or snow but chilly -- The cold snap of the last 2 or 3 nights has killed all the fruit in this county -- telegram from wife says will come tomorrow - Through tonight at 12 -- Bed 1 --

Cloudy cool and pleasant -- Wife arrived on train at 10 -- Breakfast at [Chammond's?] -- Bought some clothes for our boys -- then she went to Gold Hill -- I walked with her to neat the Imperial works & turned back -- She visited parties in Gold Hill and came up on the evening train -- I met her & she & Mrs Chubbuck et

Name of Mrs. Hiller spelled as Mrs. Hiler further down the page. Not sure of the correct spelling.
