with a little hail or snow laid dust finely -- Met L W Getchell of Austin this PM --

Getchell in Va Snow Cold

Came in Sunday to attend meeting of Board of Regents of the State University at Reno, of which he is a member -- Had quite a chat with him -- Evening attended Fourth of July adjourned meeting at Exempt Firemans' Hall -- reported it -- Through in office at 1:40 -- Bed at 2:40 -- snowing lightly

Thursday June 4

Variable -- cool -- winter clothes -- As usual -- Through in office at 2:30 -- Bed at 4 -- cold and threatening a snowstorm --

Friday June 5

The same -- Mining day -- gave me lively work -- Through at 1:30 -- Bed at 2:40 -- This was a fearfully dusty day with blustering wind --

Ice cold I at Reno & back Col Shaw & Getchell

Saturday June 6

Variable - moderate, but chilly -- ice 1/8 of an inch all about town last night -- Will go to Reno tomorrow -- Work as usual -- Through in office at 2 -- Bed 3 --

Sunday June 7

Variable but pleasant -- Went down to Reno by morning train -- Found everybody all right, Goodie also -- After dinner I took children all out to walk, through NE part of town -- Then I went down to depot at 8 to see trains come in, & see Powning, et al -- Bed at 10 --

Monday June 8

Variable but pleasant -- Home to Va at 10 -- Work as usual -- Col & Getchell at Reno, both being Regents of the State University, to select a new site at Reno for that institution, which is to be removed from Elko -- Col didnt return tonight --

Jim Townsend did his telegraph for him -- Bed at 3 -- Got letters from Billy Gibson, JB Egan, and an envelope from Sam Crescengo directed to me with a letter in it for a John [Oertle?] must have put it in by mistake, & sent a letter for me to [Oertle?] --

Tuesday June 9

The same -- Sent letter to Sam Crescengo enclosing his blundering letter -- Evening Col Shaw not got back from Reno, and old Jim Townsend filled in for him -- Through at 1 -- Bed at 2 1/2 -- Evening light showers -- Chilly --

Wednesday June 10

Cloudy, & cool, with three or four light snow squalls during day & evening -- Col Shaw got back this evening & went on to work as usual -- Sent a letter to James B Egan, Austin relative to a fine English Gordon Setter pup about 2 1/2 months old that Jack Bradley ships him tonight -- A really beautiful and fine dog - This PM Ed Swift of Gold Hill met me on C street and in consideration of having stood in with him in getting started on his street sprinkling contract he presented

Thursday June 11

Variable but rather pleasant -- As usual -- PM sent letter to wife enclosing pass, so she can come up, if she likes -- Water broke into the 3,000 level of the Hale & Norcross near face of main north lateral drift -- & about 150 feet from Savage south line -- 5 or 6 inches of it -- The stock tumbled a dollar from $8 1/2 -- in consequence -- Through in office at 1 1/2 -- Bed at 2 1/2 --

Friday June 12

The same -- a very light sprinkle or two of rain -- received an express letter from Harry & Clawson of the Union Depot Hotel, Ogden, Utah, telling me he had succeeded in selling my railroad ticket for $25, which he enclosed to me in greenbacks --

Mining report day -- got along nicely -- through in office at 1 1/2 -- Bed at 2 1/2

Saturday June 13

The same -- 2 or 3 smart showers during the day made streets quite muddy -- AM got telgram from wife that she & Sammy would be coming up on evening train -- Met them & took them to supper & to my room -- office -- through at 1:30 -- Bed at 2 -- McGurn sent me four bottles of "J H Cutter OK old Bourbon" whisky, and a box of

25 "Clean Sweep" cigars -- to my room -- This was in appreciation of my services in fixing up his ad and local the other night -- Sammy slept on the lounge tonight --

Sunday June 14

Cloudy, but rather fine -- Rose at 9 1/2 -- We breakfasted at [Channond's?] -- At home awhile -- took walk away up along Summit st, & other upper streets, from Mill st south & down Taylor street home -- Wrote 3 letters, to Jas B Egan, Austin, Harry A Clawson, Union Depot Hotel, Ogden, Utah, and CC Powning, Reno -- got 2 letters today -- One from J B Egan and one from Sam Crescengo, both from Austin -- Saw wife & Sammy off at 5:35 PM for Reno -- after dining at [Lowery & Morrill's?] -- Evening bowels out of fix from eating 3 fresh green figs at breakfast -- Staid at home & attended to it -- Bed at 2 --

Clear, fine day -- temperate & nice -- Work as usual -- Col Shaw was at Carson since yesterday morning & came up on the train this evening -- He stood in & worked this night -- I Bed at 3 -- Got letter from Summerfield, Reno --

Thursday June 16

The same -- Col Shaw off his nut -- He didnt do much tonight in office -- On a gambling drunk -- etc -- I filled in all right -- Got letter from Sardis Summerfield saying that $1.50 I sent him by Dave [A ?] was received -- Bed 4 -- [blank/erased?]

The same -- Col Shaw went to Carson tonight, and Jim Townsend acted in his place fixing up the telegrams etc. -- Bed at 2 --

Thursday June 18

The same -- Paid my Centennial assessment delinquent today -- 3 cts a share -- 921 shares -- $27.36 -- Col Shaw worked all right tonight -- We got through it at 1 -- Bed at 2

Friday June 19

The same -- As usual -- Bed 2 1/2 -- Col Shaw drinking and gambling again tonight -- Had Jim Townsend working for him --

Saturday June 20

The same -- Shaw stood in pertly tonight -- Through at 2 -- Bed 3 --

Down to Reno MM Gillespie Barrett's Circus

The same -- Should have gone to Reno this morning, but overslept myself -- Worked in office awhile -- Left for Reno on 5:25 PM train -- Took along a light box with dress etc in it for Ella Sharp, whis was sent to Chubbuck's store in this city on Friday for me to take along, Sent by her mother -- Stopped about depot, in Reno awhile, talking etc -- walked up town -- met Matt M Gillespie & had quit a
