On revisiting St Bonniface
Come fair Ideas of the past,
Borne softly on the whispering breeze,
O'er yon blue wave, with eager haste
Enamour'd Fancy's eye to please.
As Memory waves her silver wand,
Behold the airy forms appear,
Here where her pensive sweet command,
Bids them appear more soft more fair.
St Bonniface thy lonely caves,
Thy grows, thy gardens, ah! how dear,
Thy rugged rocks which Ocean laves,
Thy fount as Heav'ns own ether clear.
Around these the fond Ideas throng,
And wave their varied rings in air,
As some to Joys bright groupe belong,
Some Sorrows mournful livery wear.
