The blue tint on the map
represents the area of surface that
would be inundated, supposing
that the Dam was closed, and
that the maximum height of
10 feet of water was passing down
the Canal, without the [intervero=
=tin?] of a work for confirming the volume
within its proper Channel, or
in other words supposing that
no Inlet had been built. The
figures represent the depths of water on the blue or undated surface
& the height of dry land above it
else where.

It will be observed that
the site of the work is 300 feet
to the left of the natural Channel
of the Rutmoo River, an arrange
=ment which admitted of the
annual Torrents passing off
during the progress of our opera=
=tions without interfering with
either the excavations or material.

The position in which the
works are built necessitates a
change in the course of the River,
the living out of which is shewn
in the map : a system of trans=
=verse spins or embankments
identical with that which has been
put in practice at the puttri, has
been carried out on the approach
