183.
We have been tedious and must close our
extended remarks.

Alas ! poor Booth ! Peace to thy ashes ! We
cherish thy memory with all thy faults ! "To
err is human to forgive divine."

So long as the magic sun of Shakspere shall
cast his poetical rays over the American boards
the name and memory of this intellectual per-
former will tingle in our heart and mingle
with its best lights.

For thirty years his genius illuminated our
theatric amusements and crowded intelligent
audiences listened with delight to the music of
his eloquence and received instruction from
his historical delineations ; thus enabling us
to impart salutary lessons to posterity from our
recollections of his moral impersonations and
readings from the best dramatic writers in our
language.
