[[Milan]]

It is of a Circular form nearly - with
a Wall & Colonnade within all round,
& Windows with Iron bars - The Wall
being ab't [about] 20 feet high - The Windows give
it a good Effect - To Support it, there are
some hundred Columns of Italian granate
brought from some where near the [[Iago
majore]] amongst the [[Alps]] - perhaps they
are equally serviceable with ancient gra-
-nate - The Vaults for the Dead are
all received [?] under the Pavement of this
Colonade - When the Vaults are full
of Bodies, w'ch [which] they bury without coffin or
earth - they shut them up - & after a
certain time open them, collect the
Bones & bury them within the green
area w'ch [which] is very large. In the Middle
is a small elegant Church - The
Burying Place has several gates round in
w'ch [which] are open in the Day - it is a place of
great Resort - by way of walking to take ye [the] air - They
are shut up at night -
as they dispose of the Dead - this place seems
large eno' [enough] to last ye [the] Hospital, perhaps for ever -
