Arrived at Dr Guernsey's about twelve o'clock. Found
Carrie and Annie in their room in disabille - the others
were out. Mary Jane and Maggie having spent the morning
in shopping came home soon after dinner. We all beeame
very lively even boisterously so and the afternoon passed
quickly. Annie and Carrie went into Broadway before
tea on an errand. Stan brought us the pleasing intelligence
that cousin Kate King from Florida will arrive to-morrow
Mrs Schenah, Mary Jane & Maggie are going out. Went
this week to take measures for Maggie's divorce
from Mr Branch. They expect to be abscent about
three months. We bade them all an affectionate adieu
soon after tea and started for home. Annie accompanied
us to the stage. Arrived home safely -- retired early.
Tuesday. July 13th Very warm -- sewed all this morning,
At noon Stan arrived with cousin Kate, it was a happy
meeting between us all, but Kate was quite overcome.
She has not been to the North in sixteen years, and
although she was then only a little girl she became much
attached to her friends here, and time and change have
not diminished her affection, especially toward Harriet
who is dear to her as a sister. Kate is about Hattie's
height, very slender, and very sweet and refined in her
manners and appearance. I loved her at once and
it soon seemed as if I had known her all my life.
Mary Willet and Mary Reeve called in the afternoon
