We went back to the fumigating
room, a large room, with screens sus=
pended above, as in some laundries
where our articles, & those of our
fellow passangers were hung up, &
here each had to hunt & carry off for
themselves; & considering the number
of things, the smallness of many articles
the confusion, & mingling, the wonder
was, that ^so little was either lost or in=
jured - & now the delight of again
getting ourselves cleansed, & of parting
with our odious borrowed garments.

We have now various means of
employment by which to beguile
the time of our imprisonment —
German or Russian lessons, drawing
