Up early this mg. still pursuing our course for Akyab At 12 oclock came to anchor in Akyab Harbour Sent off immediately for letters to Huson's had none. At dinner time the Captains letters came off bringing one from Mary Fred & Barry. Good news from all Barry promises 8P lent on T 20/- sent Oct 22nd. Answer to my letter to Sir Colin stating that Asst. surgeons are only appointed in England has nothing to say to such nominations. News that Bob Auld has [come struck through] gone [written above] home

Wednesday Decr. 1st. 1858.

Busy this morning writing letters home. 12 oclock just sealed up one for Fred & went ashore for stamps to receive pay today.

Decr. 2nd. Thursday. 1858

went Ashore this morning to breakfast with the Capt. took 250 rupees with me and after break fast went with the Capt. to the treasury & got treasury draft for the same. was going on board afterwards but met Harper got into his buggy & called at Law's. Saw Mrs. Miss & Charlie. Called then on Hughden. Saw Mrs. H who had a great deal to say. Says she is a relation of Barrys. Called then at Johnsons met Stable Morris.

Hind. went on board with Morris & the Gunner in the Schooners boat about 4 oclock dined & went ashore to see the Capts. Child again Mr & Mrs. H called while I was there Mrs. E promised to post letters for me & requested one. went on bd. wrote two letters one for Barry enclosing treasury draft for 250 rupees. & one to Mrs. Knott. Madras in answer to last march one. One home & one to Fred also written this forenoon. Sent the 4 ashore to the Capt. between 9 & 10 oclock

not return. Mr. Cassiagni went in the Cutter to see what detained it at 8 oclock returned reporting that a landing could not be made through the surf a heavy swell had now set in. there evidently being a heavy gale in some part of the the Bay. No change [chance] of getting of[f] the jolly tonight so Mr. L must remain on shore all night.

Saturday December 4th. 1858

Capt. & Capt. Faithful went in the Cutter this morning to examine the coast. found a heavy Surf beating all along the coast. Could not land. Cassiagni went in the P B Boat to anchore outside the surf & pass a Bouy line through the surf to bring of[f] the jolly did not come off again & we could see from the ship that the boat has got swamped & Cassiagni

Got under weigh at daylight this morning to proceed to Akya fine clear day had a pleasant trip down & lunched in Akyab Harbour at 4 oclock went ashore & called at the Captns. in the evening Child much better. Anchored a long way off shore. Came on board at 9 oclock. Steamer Baltic arrived from Calcutta at 10 oclock PM. Slept in Cabin

Dressed & went to the ball last night about 9 oclock. Cassiagni went ashore with me. Called at Johnson's first refused buggy walked along to Bullocks house dancing going on. Supper at 12 ocl. ladies danced till 4 left at 6 walked with Bowen & Dibbs on the road to the point & went on bd. myself left Bowen & Dibbs at Johnson's went to bed at 10 ocl. slept till one & from 2 till 5 re- mained on bd. today. luggage came on bd. in the evening. to start for Kyouk Phyoo & Sandoway to morrow Mg.
