Evans Triton went over the jail & Hospital. rode Capt. Evans poney up then called on Capt. Evans go on bd. about 9.
Thursday Decr. 16th 1858
Remained at Anchor in Kyauk Phyoo all day. Capt. Dr. Brown Col. Sage & {{Triton]] went in the Afternoon to drive with Evans pulled in the Jolly boat in the evening with Cassiagni pulled the Jolly from the shore on bd. myself went to the bazaar in the evg. with C Met Col Dr. B Capt. Triton Thomas Got chairs [written above:]all left went beating unsuccessful returned on bd. at 1/2 past 10.
Friday Decr. 17th. 1858
Left Kyauk Phyoo this morninf at 5 oclock got a fine breeze about 7 ocl going along briskly Mrs. Nihill Sailors wife came

on bd. as a passenger fine cool day. Anchored in Akyab at 5 ocl. Col. Sage Dr. Brown Triton went ashore in the Cutter Dr. B asked me to call on him at B'poor and stay a day or two on Arrival in Calcutta did not go ashore in the evening

Up an hour before sunrise very cold on deck. Joey back to look again. went on shore in the evening Called at Capt. Eales not at home at Johnsons do [underscored] went down to the ghaut with the Dolphin's boat Met Cassiagni went to the Ba-z] mugh Imahara bye & Baltic ard. f Rangoon

Up early let Officer of Baltic came on bd. at breakfast time fine cool day. read plagues on the Egyptians went to bed at 0 oclock.

Up at 1/2 past 5. Cassiagni & Dibbs on deck (coaling) breakfast at 10 read Watsons pathological lectures Hsoy. [Histology?] Atrophy & Stiffening before breakfast. did not go ashore in the evening tried heaving the lead with Cassiagni
Tuesday Decr. 21st. 1858
Up at six very cold morning Capt. came on bd. at 8 ocl read Watsons (Lecture on the Path Sudden death) before breakfast. After received viisit to Capts. Dinner on Xmas eve. reddy today (North & South) went on shore with Dibbs in the evg, Called at Johnsons stables Harper Morris left Dibbs with toothache called at the Capts. Capt. left to play billiards sat chatting to Mrs. E till 8 ocl Called at Johnsons had some oysters & porter went on bd. at 10 with DIbbs.

Up at daybreak. walked an hour on deck went down & dressed expect the "Sr. Warrine" today "Sr. Burmah" arrived today at 4 ocl bringing Mary & Willies letter of the 8th Novr. all well palau to leave on the 19th with inclosure from Fred

Up at 1/2 past 7 had a play at Single Stick with Cassiagni & Bowen before breakfast remined on bd. all day did not go ashore in the evg. reading North & South.
Friday Decr. 24th. 1858
up between 7 & 8 fine cool morg. dined at the Capts. at six ocl Xmas Eve. Met Mr & Mes. B Harper Dibbs Bowen Cassiagni Law. had singing after dinner sung Queens Letter & Across the Braes. got on bd. about 12 ocl.

Xmas in Akyab
Saturday Decr.25th. 1858.
Dressed Ship at 8 ocl. Dibbs Bowen Cassiagni went out boat sailing after breakfast in the Cutter. Had Goose turkey Ducks Fowl to dinner Xmas pud- ding [uneadible?] remained on bd. all day. Party at Law's but did not go turned in at 9 oclock so past xmas

Nothing particular today recd. a letter from Barry returning treasury dft. for 250/- for signature
Monday Decr. 27th. 1858
Answered Barry's letter this morning sent signed treasury draft for 250/- Dauk to leave at 6 oclock today Capt. Hicks of "Lady head" Came aboard this forenoon Bowen & Dibbs went ashore with him at 1 oclock. remained on bd. all day. Wrote 2 letters homw in the evening till 10 oclock. promised to write to my mother

picked up the Schooner. Well on for Kyouk Phyoo with the Comr. & Mrs Verner on bd. Dr. & Mrs. Pettingal passengers with us. Dr. going to relieve Jones at Sandoway Mrs Eales & Edith with [?] ([up arrow]3 ocl)
Friday Decr. 31st. 1858
Called at Ripley's with Bowen & Dibbs last night asked to dinner today and tomorrow. Sat reading High lands & Islands of Scotland all day Ripley & Evans came on bd. went up & dined with Ripley. Met Ripley Evans Johnson Frenchman Young Morris Cassagne had a good dinner Sat Singing verse all round brought in the New Year 3 Cheers at 12 ocl. Sang Auld Lang Syne & drank to the health of Absent friends went om bd. with Bowen & Cassiagni about 1 ocl.

Jany 2nd. 1859 Sunday
Started a little before 6 this morning for Sandoway towing the Commissioner's Schooner. Dr & Mrs. Pettayal & Mrs. Eales on bd. Mr. Young left in a native boat at the three brothers about 7 ocl. got through the wine pipe safely without grounding or smashing trees. passed the Mount at 1/2 past 12 ocl. very earm day. entered Sandoway river between 5 & 6 ocl. Anchored at Sing Gong & cast off the Schooner Capt. went on bd. to see the Comr. Schooner pro- ceeded up [struck through:to] near to Sandoway

coming in on all sides that tigers are in the neigbourhood several natives been killed & in Hospital at Sandoway one man walked off with out of his house & dragged royds. Henricks a German Merchant came on bd. today between 11 & 12 for advice give him medicine asked me to go up to Sandoway & promised to send a poney to ride up on. remained on board all today reading Highlands & Islands of Scotland Farady paura very prolific in Children. a great many buffaloes. [written between lines] Capt. asked me to walk out with Mrs. E but I [?] did not feel inclined Capt. went out shooting.
Tuesday Jany. 4th. 1859
Went out before sunrise this morning for a walk with Capt. & Mrs. Eales. Capt. took his gun landing place very muddy. Went partly through the village full of Buffaloes & pariah dogs the former seemed nuch frightened at our

apptoach but not so for the natives. Capt. to try & get a shot among the Jungle. Mrs. E. & I walked down by the side of the river as far as a kind of farmsteading when we returned. saw the Capt. on the way back. we went on bd. Capt. came an hour after remained on bd. all day reading (one in a thousand) Cassiagni Law & some of the Engineer Apprentices went on shore shooting in the afternoon. shot one pigeon & a Jay. brough[t] a small snake on bd. which they found near the river on shore 1 1/2 feet long. had no frill like a Cobra. a sting was projected from the neath like that of a wasp but much larger. we pitched him overboard.
Wednesday Jany. 5th. 1859
Still at Anchor in Todypauna where we are likely to have an

long stay unless the "Nemesis" comes to releive us. Capt. sent down about 6 for me to go on shore & take a walk Capt. Mrs. Eales & I went ashore Mrs. E nearly got a tumble in the mud. from the Canoe slipping. took the four dogs with us. Kate Barney Billy & little Kate had them all in the water. Walked along the river's bank about three miles up to a pagoda on a hill with the priests house near it rather a nicely built house [written above: saw] several gods inside the pagoda. went across a ditch with three planks as a bridge nearly all the buffaloes on the road broke loose & went scampering away. the pariah's shewed a great inclination to bite our heels pulled some Indian Corn at a garden & some Chillies & returned on bd. at 1/4 past 8 the walk back very warm
