Sunday Jany. 16th. 1859
Up between 5 & 7 this morning Very foggu could not see five yds. ahead. went on shore for a ride rode over to the creek. back to the ship about 8. remained on bd. all day. Dibbs went up to Sandoway after dinner & dined with the Capt. [written above:]Henricks sent sent down for my poney as the Capt. & he are going into the Country tomorrow. to be brough down again tomorrow.

Monday Jany. 17th. 1859
Up at 7 this morning could not go out for a ride owing to the pony having been sent to Sandoway. remained on bd. all day. Cassiagni & the Gunner went out in the jolly boat through the Creek to Singh Gong. had a note from Mrs. E say Edith & Mrs. E had had fever. Went up after dinner in the Cutter the 2 Master 2 Engineer Clerks Nephew & Clerk. Called at the Capts. returned from Sandoway at 9 on bd. at 1/2 past 10. Gun room painted slept in the after cabin
Tuesday Jany. 18th. 1859
Up about 7. Poney has not come 1/2 past 7 Capt. came down on my poney on bd. asked for 24hs. advance from Contingent. (Scruffy.[?]) Henricks came on bd. after breakfast re- mained to dinner Bowen Cassiagni Henricks & I went up to Sandoway

after dinner in the jolly boat Called at Henricks had a note from Mrs. E to call over went returned to Henricks Cassiagni & Bowen went to the Bazaar came back after 10. Henricks wanted me to stop would not. Bowenremained. got on bd. about 12 slept in the Gunner's place. After Cabin & Gun room being painted
Wednesday Jany. 19th. 1859
Got up before 7. poney not yet arrived reading house newspapers Freind &ce got from the Capt. this mg. Cold mg. Thermometer 67° remained on bd. all day reading Red Rover. Dibbs went up in the jolly boat to stop at the Capts. all night & go out shooting tomorrow Bowen not returned from Sandoway turned in about 8 oclock.

Thursday Jany. 20th. 1859
Up at 1/2 past 6. pony arrived had a gallop on the road to Singgong came on bd. at 1/2 past 7. Cutter going up to Sandoway for the Capts. things Law went up & I sent servant to Bazaar to by some Burmah Boxes with seven rupees returned without them saying Henricks would bring them for me went ashore about 5 & had a long gallop. Dibbs & Bowen came on board in the jolly about 9 oclock.

Up at 1/4 to Seven went on shore had a good long ride. returned on bd. about 8. Capt. & Mrs. Eales came on bd. about 11. brought newspapers. read them reading [underscored: Red Rover] Went on shore after dinner had a ride. Capt.

at Ramree
with Capt. & Mrs. Eales to visit Mrs. Verner in the Schooner. Bowen went up in the jolly after breakfast. returned between 6 & 7 having shot a quantity of Snipe & Curlew brought 11 ducks from Ramree. Capt. & Mrs. E returned about 9 bringing word that the Schooner was to come down this evening & that we are shortly to leave for Akyab.

Up at 7. Schooner came down this mg. to start at 9 ocl for Kyouk Phyoo. Arrived at Kyouk Phyoo at 3 ocl. Capt Ripley came aboard asked us to dinner. Letters from home & Fred with newspapers from my father Jessie Mary all well. Fred's contained news of poor Sophys death (New Scotsman) containing (earth quake in Anacau). Went in the evening & dined with Ripley Bowen Dibbs Johnson Young there

Looking out daily for the Arrival of the "Nemesis" reported she was to leave Calcutta on the 21st. re- mained on bd. all day went ashore with Young Law in the afternoon bought some Burmah boxes in the Bazaar. 31 Rupee.
Saturday Jany. 29th. 1859
Capt. Bowen Capt. Ripley went on a shooting xcursion this mg. in Ripleys boat. Mrs. Eales went to spend the day with Mrs. Verner. on our arrival in Kyouk Phyoo found Evans had gone to Akyab. 12 ocl Sighted the Nemesis [written above: fired a gun to bring Captn. back] Coming to [written above: be] our releif. Came into the harbour between 2 & 3. Dibbs & I went on bd. Saw Capt Goodwin Johnson introduced to Dr. Maynood brother of him in the Sydney Went to the Capts Cabin had a glass

Laying still at Anchor in Kyouk Phyoo Webt on bd. the Nemesis in the Afternoon. Bowen Dibb Johnson on bd.
Monday Jany. 31st. 1859
Capt. Gordon & Dr. Maynood came aboard this mg. Went on bd. the "Nemesis" Stayed all day Earl Dr. Ripley Capt. Eales & Gordon went to call on the Commissioner returned on br. between 4 & 5 dressed & went up to dine with Ripley a very large party 16 Comr.

Mail Sr. [Steamer] "Baltic" came in this mg. about 8 oclock. Capt. Hick of the "Lady head" came aboard. "Nemesis" arrived here at 10ocl went aboard the "Nemesis" between 12 & 1 brought off the Dr. & Dibbs Capt. Goodwin Mrs. & Miss Street. Lt officer came on bd. "Proserpine" in the Cutter. Lef officer dined with us. Dr. & third officer remained on bd. till 9. Capt. & Mrs. Eales Miss Hughesdon Mr. & Mrs. Motley came on board in the evening all ready to start tomorrow for Calcutta. received a letter from Agnes Taylor & Mr. Taylor & a newspaper xstrain[?] news from Mr. Thomson I think.

& Miss H on deck. had a Chat with old Fielder. Passes the "Belgravia" off Saugor in tow of Fire Queen. Saw Wade on the forecastle. Old Wharton came out of the wheel house waved not near enough to speak. Passed the mail steamer "Simla" & a good many ships on their way down wards. Anchored below Culpee Went aft about 8 had a chat with Capt. Mrs. E & Miss H.
Thursday Feby. 10th. 1859
Up about 6 Fine cool mg. Got under weigh at daylight strong ebb tide. day very hot. arrived in Calcutta about 5 ocl. went on shore took a packee called at Ferris's no letters. took dinner then met Dr. Votch of Edinr. Wm. White taking Barry's place Mrs. Ferris Capt. & Mrs. McDonald

Capt. came abd. this mg. expected Rennie but did not come. Cassiagni & Law went ashore after breakfast. underscored:(Barney died) opened him could not find the cause. Capt. & Capt. Brett of the "Enterprise" came aboard between 2 & 3 Cassiagni & Law to join the [struck through: Eale] Tubal Cain the former as Acting Chief.
Saturday Frbruary 12th. 1859
Up before Sunrise. breakfast at 9 went ashore after took a ghanie bought shoes at Coislis[?] writers[?] buildings. Called at Scott Morrisons. got Genl. Salter's address Mils[?] Club went to Wilson's to wait for Bowen Stayed from 12 to 1. read the Huskara[?] BoBeer[?] & Chem. [struck through: called] Bowen did not come. Called on Genl. Salter who is anxious to go home
