THE BEST BOOKS OF CHURCH MUSIC
FOR
CHORUS AND QUARTET CHOIRS
THE CHORAL CHOIR. - BY W. O. PERKINS.
Dr. Perkins' new choir and class book, the "Choral Choir, will be found partic-
ularly pleasing and peculiarly appropriate, both as regards the nature and variety
as well as quality of its contents. To thoses who have not hitherto enjoyed a
"singing" acquaintance with this veteran compiler, its admirable selection
of pieces will prove a most powerful argument in its favor, for the work of such
a well-known author will always receive favorable consideration. To those, also,
who have had occasion, or the good fortune, it may be better said, to use any of
his previous publications, this new choir book will prove most acceptable. It
is besides, a singing class book as well, and in its 300 pages will be found a com-
plete collection of sacred and secular music, between which the book is quite
evenly divided.
Its instructive lessons and exercises are interesting and well graded, and its
glees and part-songs compiled from the newest and best sources. The last half
of the book is strictly sacred, and has a very large number of pieces in all the
metres, a very choice variety of anthems and a number of excellent chants.
For the convenience of those however, who desire to use only those portions
which apply strictly to singing classes, a companion book to the Choral Choir has
been published, and of which more particular mention is made elsewhere. Mr. Perkins is thoroughly conversant with the character of the music which is best
fitted for such a collection, and in either one or the other of his new books, will
be found all that is needed by chorus choirs and class singers.
