My dear Mrs. Stevens,

I am stenographer and general office
force. My standbys are both sick. Mrs. Meyer has been
ailing for several days but stuck to her job untill yes-
terday. She says she is feeling better today but the or-
ders are that she must be quiet.

Mrs. McMahon has been in bed for two
days now and seems to be no better as yet. I am in hopes
that she will be improving by tomorrow. We are going to
keep her in bed until all danger is over. I think that
both she and Mrs. Meyer have the Influenza.

We were thrown into the greatest con-
fusion here by the announcement that Mrs. Catt was sick
and would be unable to fill her S.D. dates. Mrs. Halsey
Wilson was sent to take her place and is in Sioux Falls
this P.M. where she will speak to the Federated Clubs
tonight. About 15 minutes before I received the telegram
in regard to Mrs. Call I was notified that all public
meetings of every kind were to be closed in Huron. I was
just coming from the Drs. office where I went to discuss
the situation with him, when the telegram came telling
of Mrs. Catt having the Influenza and threatened Pneu-
monia and cancelling her dates as far as she was concerned.

Mrs. Callett of Aberdeen has prac-
tically consented to act as chairman of Brown for the
rest of the campaign. They were making great plans for
Mrs. Catts Meeting. They have cancelled the date as they
felt that this other speaker would not draw the people.
It was a most awful catastrophy that Mrs. Catt
should have been stricken at this time. I have never
known the women to take hold with more interest than they
have been getting ready for her. She was to have been
in Sioux Falls the 10th, Huron 11th, Aberdeen the 12th,
Mitchell 13th, Yankton 14th, Vermillion 15th. As it stands
now only Sioux Falls, Mitchell and Vermillion are to
have meetings.

I am in receipt of your statement
and will enclose check for $50.00 to tide over for a
short time. Mrs. Rewman has written that she is ready
to take hold and help me with the money if all the world
goes smash. She speaks of coming to this side of the state
if I think best. I will write her tonight to get to work
in the Hills right away. Please organize the women to
be ready to work with her. It is such a comfort to see
how well a properly organized county does the work required.
This county has turned in her full assessment and is ready to
mail out the petitions and a circular to the voters. That is
what was expected of all. However they must all help to pay the
