My Dear Mrs. Pyle:

I am just in receipt of your letter announcing the
change in programme, and I know just how this has bothered every one.
What a calamity to happen. What a bad state of affairs. I am only
hoping that Mrs. Catt will have but a slight attack of it. They have
closed all the public places here, and I was just thinking that we
might hear of those meetings in the eastern part of the state being
closed when I opened your envelope. It is surely a dreadful epidemic,
and I hope that Mrs. Meyers and Mrs. McMahon have only slight attacks. I
had been out all afternoon today and coming to the office at 4 P.M.
I saw your letter, and just wondered if I could possibly get ready in
time for the six o'clock train this evening should you ask me to come.

I found out this morning that Mrs. Pettigrew was in town, and I called
her, making an appointment at one o'clock to see her. I thought at
first she was a bit shy about things, but I soon laid the financial
situation before her, telling her that no county west of the river had
sent in any money. She then got interested, and asked me if I would
come down and talk to a meeting that she would be able to get together
perhaps on next Sunday evening, and I told her I would providing I was
given the privilege of making a strong plea for money. She said that
even though it was Sunday evening that she would make the plan for that
so if the influenza doesn't cut us off I will see what we can do, and
perhaps interview the men afterwards, or the next day rather.

As I said I called the women together here the other day and laid the
question of finance before them, and the need of doing some more work,
and I have succeeded in getting them to give and to work. But none of
them will undertake the soliciting of the men, so I have taken that
upon my shoulders, and have about $150.00 together this evening. I
have a good many more to see and will try and keep at it, until we can
send you in all that we can get hold of. The only expense we will
have here in our county will be the cost of the slides, and all we
will want is plenty of literature. I just wish that I could keep this
lick up the balance of the month. I am trying to get every other woman
to ask of her particular friends. I wrote to Mr. Gandy and also
to Mr. Atwater, and enclose herewith the letter from Mr.Lewis, who
is in Mr. A.'S office. I have not as yet had time to hear from Mr. Gandy.
Now, Mrs. Pyle if you haven't already sent to the several Senators and
Representatives what do you think of My doing it. Especially those
who go to Congress. If the meetings cannot be held in the different
large places then there will be no way of reaching these different men
unless we do it directly. One of our bankers turned me down yesterday
and I have written an editorial for our paper, which, if printed, I will
send you a copy of. We have been having pretty good stuff lately in the
papers, and I have been trying to send them to Mrs. McMahon regularly.
I will send you the money just as soon as I think I have a sum together
is worth while. I am sure that you are terribly bothered. I told MrS
Stevens to arrange meetings for me any where and I would go.

Lovingly,
[Mabel Rewman?]

Can you send me that book with addresses of all Sen & Rep--?
