July 2, 1936 Dear Ruth and Alfred: Salamanca waits for you - its a lovely city indeed. We've spent the morning wandering around its streets, then into the university buildings and finally the cathedral new first, and then through into the old one so full of lovely things that its hard to remember them all. And alas. Spain seems to have no reproductions or post-cards of any detail. We are dependent upon Alfred's camera next summer! Leou was also a star for the Rous family with a delightful friendly priest so full of enthusiasm for his cathedral that it made it doubly charming. But not a picture to be had! And that is said to rank with Toledo and Burgos. Altogether Spain is proving a real success except for Phoebe, who doesn't like churches and [emphasis] hates [/emphasis] olive oil Love to you Both Mark This started to be plain p.c. but postal said I must use an envelope.

Dear Alfred: Thanks for the inspiring piece of historical literature. It has a magnificent sweep[?]; it bears the marks of scholarship, and, as far as my little knowledge goes, is sound history ; It was nice to see you [unintelligible]. Forward to Marry Allen[?] Ever Yours, Charles Reard
