President John Taylor and the Council
of the Twelve Apostles.

Brethren:

We the undersigned
appointed at the Semi-annual Conference of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commenced
October 6th, 1877, and at the General Conference
of the same Church which commenced April 6, 1878
as a committee to audit the books of the late
Trustees-in-Trust President Brigham Young and
George A. Smith, have in accordance with that
appointment made a thorough and exhaustive
examination of said books and the account of the
late President Brigham Young as we have found
it upon the books of the Trustee-in-Trust. Besides
bestowing a great deal of care and spending a
large amount of time in examining and auditing
this account ourselves, we have called to our aid
those of the late Trustees-in-Trusts' clerks who we
could obtain, namely: Thomas W. Ellerbeck, David
O. Calder
, James Jack, A.M. Musser, Wm. Clayton
and Robert R. Anderson in order that all the light
possible to procure might be thrown upon the
various entries.

After taking these pains and thoroughly
satisfying ourselves respecting the account refered
to, we find there is due to the Church from the
estate of the late President Brigham Young in
the aggregate $999,632.90 which sum does
not include rents, issues and profits on real
estate, nor does it include interest or coupons
on railroad bonds; dividends and reserves on
