Philadelphia Pa.
Sept. 19. 1915

Hon Governor. Spry

Sir
The State of Utah of which
you are its chief magistrate has condemed
Joseph Hillstrom to suffer the death penalty
for the alleged murder on the night of Jan 10
1914 of J.S. Morrison and his son Arling.
The singers of this petition do enter protest
against this second murder on the 1st day
of October 1915 as contemplated by the State.
You have of course received the evidence verbatim
as contained in the Court Record.
We ask you: Can you find one word of
direct, convincing, unbiased, conclusive evidence
that leaves absolutely no room for "a reasonable
doubt" in your mind of the guilt of Joe. Hillstrom
if the laws of the State of Utah are laid down upon
the same fundamental base as the laws of all
other States of the Nation, then the defendent
Joseph Hillstrom must be proven guilty beyond
"a reasonable doubt."
It is the sworn duty of the state officers
