Dear Sir:-

It has been called to our attention that a laboring man known as Joe Hill, was on June 27th., 1914, convicted of murder in the first degree, at Salt Lake City, and was sentenced to be shot, as a penalty therefor.

It is further stated that the evidence which resulted in the above mentioned sentence was purely circumstantial in nature, and finally that none of the witnesses were able to identify Hill as the perpetrator of the crime of which he stands convicted.

We presume you were elected to the office which you at present enjoy, with the understanding (on the part of the common people who cast their votes in your favor, at least) that you would enforce the laws of that State in a just manner; presuming this,what would be our conclusion , should you allow such an evident perversion of the law ? surely we could in the future hope for very little from our constitution, especially from article one,

of the fourteenth amendment.

If you will look about you and remove the hoodwink of prejudice from your eyes you will discover that if you allow such a perversion of justice, it will but help to swell the tide of discontent which even now, threatens to engulf the world:

Turn your attention to The French Revolution for a few moments and read therefrom a lesson; then again direct your attention to the oath which you took when entering upon the duties of Governor of Utah.

With a sincere hope that you will give to this case your personal attention and lend what power you may have at your command to the support of justice , we, the following workers, have hereto affixed our names.
