An Act Conferring upon Women the Elective Franchise.

Sec 1. Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Utah. That every woman of the age of twenty one years who has resided in this Terrtory six months next preceding any general or special election, born or naturalized in the United States, or who is the wife, widow, or the daughter of a native-born or naturalized citizen of the United States, shall be entitled to vote at any election in the Territory.

Sec 2. All laws, or parts of laws, conflicting with this act, are hereby, repealed.

To the Honorable Orson Pratt Speaker of the House

Sir, I have the honor to inform you that I have this day approval signed and deposited in the Secretary's Office "An act confering upon women the election Franchise. In view of the importance of the measure referred to, it may not be considered improper for me to remark. That I have very grave and serious doubts of the wisdom and soundness of that political economy which makes the act a law of this Territory, and that then our many reasons which in my judgement are apposed to the legislation. But whatever these doubts and reasons may have been, in view of the unanimous passage.

of the act in back the House and the arrival and in diferrence to the judgement of many whose opinion I very much respect. I have on before stated approved the bill hoping that future experience may approve the wisdom of an action and that the same may be formed to be in harmony with the spirit and greivance of the age in which we live.
