To the Honorable Orson Pratt
Speaker of the House

Sir,
I have
the honor to inform you that I have this
day approval signed and deposited in
the Secretary's Office "An act confering upon
women the election Franchise. In view
of the importance of the measure referred
to, it may not be considered improper
for me to remark. That I have very
grave and serious doubts of the wisdom
and soundness of that political economy
which makes the act a law of this
Territory, and that then our many
reasons which in my judgement are
apposed to the legislation. But whatever
these doubts and reasons may have
been, in view of the unanimous passage.
