The National American Woman Suffrage Association was
organized in 1890 as a merger of two former associations organized
respectively in 1869 and 1870. It is a federation of state organizations.
The object, according to its constitution, is "to secure suffrage for
women by appropriate national and state legislation." It had never endorsed
any other issue. It is a strictly non-partisan organization, never
having espoused or opposed any party as such.
