No. 207 Usquebaugh.
To i gallon of the best Brandy put 1 lb of Raisins of the Sun stoned & cut, 2 ozs Liquorish root cut, the thin rind of 2 seville oranges 1/4 oz cloves - 1 oz cinammon - 1/4 oz cochineal - 1 oz nutmeg 1/4 oz Mace - 1/4 oz Ginger - all bruised. 1 oz best Emglish saffron, 1 1/2 lbs double refined sugar put all these ingredients into a 6 quart stone bottle to the Brandy, stopped close for 14 days shaking it once in 3 or 4 days, pour off 3 quarts then put 3 qts of Brandy into the Bottle, put into it 1 lb double refined sugar & 1 oz liquorish root & let it stand a month, then pour off 3 quarts, these 6 quarts will be perfectly good mixed together, then put 3 quarts of Brandy more adding only 1/2 an oz of Saffron, 1 1/2 lb sugar & the rind of 2 seville oranges let it stand a month shaking it as before.

Pour 2 quarts boiling water on 1/2 lb of roll Brims [tone?] pounded & sifted, stir it often & take a tea cupful strained thro' a bit of gauze every morning fasting

209 Bitters
1/4 lb Orange peel, 2 ozs sliced Gentian root, 1/2 oz Cochnieal s colchimiel (sic) 2 qts French Brandy

No. 210 Sprain to cure
20º worth Venice Turpentine, 1º worth powder bole ammoniac mixed in a pipkin over the fire & spread on sheeps leather, this cured Mrs. Creuzes great, great Grandmother, when she had been lame two years, - This lady would be the great, great, great great Grandmother of the writer, John Browne Jr. born 1849. [?] Mrs Creuze was sister to William Browne who had 5 sons, the eldest survivor, (the eldest married) was John Brownr, born 29 Nov 1806. & I am his eldest surviving son.
