March 25th - 29th. 1915.
Thurs. 25th. Office. Stamped pay books & sent cheques. Was very disappointed at not being able to go to Paddington to see Dorothy go through but positively could not manage it. Felt pretty [unclear] but tried to cheer up & felt better after dinner. Sat by the fire at No. 21. [unclear] [talked] & read & I began my [sock?] again having borrowed some directions.
Frid. 26th. Office. Had the rather tedious job of stamping most of the day & then directed & entered the cheque books. Had to look back & forth every time as I have not a [unclear] left. The pay dept. has not sent Bertie's pay to Cox's so could get it. Had a letter from Bertie at night enclosing a cheque on Cox's for £20. The [unclear] 29 - The German "Polite Pirate" has been seen with all the her crew. Cold frosty weather. Very nice for walking.
Sat. 27th. Lovely day. Capt. Dowding got my cheque cashed for me & I also got my 30/ pay so I was flush! Lunched in town & then some [probably meant sent?] off some cables for Bertie. Did a little shopping alter, wrote Bertie in the eve.
Sun. 28th. Went to Holy Trinity in the A.M. where we had a very good sermon. Ross [Colton?] was in town & 'phoned up asking me to go to a concert & then supper. He got the wrong time for the concert though, so we went directly to the Savoy (he called for me in a taxi) had a delightful supper & stayed some time listening to the music after. There were lots of people - Belgian officers & a whole party of Seaforths but my Canadian one was the best looking of them all! He was in uniform of course. It was hard to realize such a fearful war was going on so near us really, but as I was with a soldier it was all right to be gay! Wrote Digby in the aft. & Dorothy.
Mon. 29th. The office has been moved to Westminster House, Grosvenor Road - all the Can. offices are together on one floor. We are in a big room with long tables & the [unclear] pay next us. Most of the other people in our room are men in uniform. It was some time before we got to work & things aren't straight yet. Lunched at the stores with Miss Whittigham's sister who is very nice. Went to some friends of Miss Haddock's with her in the eve. a [unclear] & Miss Prentiss who have a flat in Victoria Street. We sat by the fire & talked. We had a nice moonlight walk home.
Tues. 30th. Office as usual. The Orchards asked me to meet them in town & have tea, but I couldn't manage it.
