June 21st - 27th.
Mon. 21st. Office. Wore my new mauve muslin dress. Letter from Margaret & Bertie & the latter sent me a [unclear] brooch - the Badge they wear on their shoulders. He has a pipe band who wear the Leckie tartan now & they've been playing to the troops. Wrote Mrs Godson a note putting off my dinner engagement.
Tues. 22nd. Office. Major Rae came in. He's off to Aberdeen. Turned in early in the eve.
Wed. 23rd. Office. Miss Powell & Gwen Mainwaring dined with me after which we went for a walk along the Embankment & then round to Victoria by bus. We waited there for ages expecting to see a lot of soldiers home on leave arrive by a boat train but were rather disappointed as there were only a few - French & English [unclear]. Some showers through the day. I came home at lunch & changed.
Thurs. 24th. Office. Bertie has been made a Companion of the Order of St. Michael & St. George. Am delighted! One other Canadian has also been made a Companion - the head of the Army Medical Corps. Lunched with Miss Wanstall & Miss Frisbee in Masham St. I took my glasses to be mended after. Major Godson has the D.S.O.
Frid. 25th. Office. Mrs Black came home to dinner with me. We stayed late on account of exra work with the draft books.
Sat. 26th. Office. My half day off. Miss Haddock came up to Mrs Anoldi's hospital with me to see Capt. Gardiner who has been shot through the lung. However he wasn't able to see me. Saw Major Godson. He is looking pretty fit, but the specialist is afraid he will never get his voice back owing to the pieces [unclear] sticking in his larynx. Afterwards we had tea in Kensington Gardens (Miss H. Mrs G. & I). It was lovely there. Was very tired in the eve. & only read before turning in.
Sun. 27th. Wrote & tidied up my table full of papers in the A.M. Went to St. Paul's to aft. service. Miss Haddock came with me. We had tea in a little shop in St. Paul's Churchyard after & then went up to the Orchards & had supper with them. Met Mr Jack. Gerty came down to the [table?] with me.
